The daughter just graduated from highschool in 2010.

Sad.

COPPELL — Coppell Mayor Jayne Peters and her 19-year-old daughter were found dead in their home Tuesday night. Police are investigating the case as a possible murder-suicide.

A city official said Peters and daughter Corinne Peters had both apparently been shot in the head. There was no sign of forced entry at the home in the 700 block of Greenway Drive.

City spokeswoman Sharon Logan said police are investigating whether the deaths were a murder-suicide, but she said it was too soon to say who may have committed the killings.
“At this point, all we can really say is the investigation is just not complete,” city spokeswoman Sharon Logan said. "There are a lot of things we need to look at."

Coppell police found the bodies about 7:45 p.m. after City Manager Clay Phillips asked them to check on the mayor after she did not show up for a council meeting Tuesday night.

“We started the council meeting this evening and she’s prompt as can be and if she’s going to be late, she’ll call you,” Logan said.
Logan said the mayor’s council colleagues were stunned when police told them of the discovery. She said the mayor had shown no signs of personal turmoil.
“I would say it was a complete state of shock for everyone,” she said.

Jayne Peters succeeded Doug Stover as mayor last year after no one challenged her bid for the seat.
Peters, who has served on the Coppell City Council since 1998, was a contract software developer.

Her husband, Donald Peters, 58, died in January 2008 from cancer.
Corinne Peters was a member of the Class of 2010 at Coppell High School.

if that was a muder suicide, that is as bad as it gets. If you want to die that is up to you, but I hope you ROAST IN HELL for killing someone else.

Shouldn't something like that be looked at on a case by case scenario? What if a woman or kid has gotten tired of years and years of abuse from someone and kills the person that has been abusing them? That kind of stuff has happened frequently and at times they are not charged with anything. What if after the moment they feel some sort of instant overwhelming remorse and kill themselves?

Not that I think that my hypothetical situation applies at all to what happened in Coppell.

What is up with the D/FW region? They have had some strange incidents lately. A sheriff's son in Lancaster and now a mayor in Coppell. Strange.

Agreed. I can't wrap my mind around that one.

We had a similar sceneairo here in Boulder. A disgruntled employee shot and killed the new owners of a fireplace/flooring company and then turned the gun on him self. About a 2 blocks away from where I work.

Sadder yet is they left behind a 12 year old daughter.

Combined Coppell, Seven's story with the shootings in NM and guns should be outlawed! :laugh2:

Actually, I'm not against guns and I actually own one. (bolt action rifle) I just think they should be extremely difficult to get. For every one intelligent gun owner their are probably five idiot owners who have no training. Not to mention many of them buy guns for the wrong reason.

I know of know statistics to confirm this but I do agree, there are not enough experienced gun owners and way too many inexperienced gun owners running around.

I'm all for the right to bear arms in your household but folks kill me with the "We need our guns in case the Government gets out of hand" argument.

If the U.S. Goverment goes rogue, you know, the one that has arguably the most powerful military in the world, your little gun cache isn't going to mean much ;) .

Anywho, I just left a city in North Texas and I couldn't imagine if I woke up and read that the mayor of the city I worked for possibly killed himself and his child. I will definitely be keeping an eye on this story.

They're called militia's and they aren't against the government it's local law enforcement not the military.

Very few of the gun owning population say this............even the "idiots" who own guns.

That's cool with me. An "inexperienced gun owner" equates to one with bad aim. So, fair warning dude-in-the-next-car-who's-prone-to-fits-of-road-rage. You better get close, you're only gonna get one round off!

The article is on the Dallas Mourning News, so I can't post it but it is official, the Mayor of Coppell killed her daughter and then herself. According to the article, when investigators first entered the house, there was a note written by the Mayor apprising them of the gruesome scene they would later discover.

Also, they said that there were several other notes found but those only contained instructions on what to do with the family pets and other trivial matters.

Some of the Mayor's daughters friends said the daughter claimed she was worried about her mother because her mother was extremely afraid to live on her own, as the daughter was planning on attending UT-Austin this Fall.

Also, apparently the Mayor's husband died of Cancer a few years ago and that really shook up the family.

Man, this story sucks.

The citizens of Coppell are upset that the flags were flown at half staff for the mayor.

Man, DFW has quite the drama lately.

Only morons would think that even a majority of the US Military would start to confiscate guns, or start putting masses of people into concentration camps. I work with soldiers every day; have for years. The officer that gives that order will look like swiss cheese.
