The contract with Uverse expires in a short while and looks like I will have to be making that dreaded phone call.
Options are limited here, with ATT and COX being the only real providers here, I wont count Dish Network as they don't provide internet/phone.
I need...
A good selection of channel, which hopefully includes the NFL Network.
A internet connection of at least 100 Mpbs.
A home phone

Your ideas and thoughts?

A decent way to keep your local cable (and NFL network) but wo the cable companies is Hulu Live TV. It's a bit pricey at $55/mo but has rights to the NFL network and live sports. I don't care as much about the cable stuff so I just have Hulu wo ads.
https://www.hulu.com/live-tv#all-channels
Verizon 100 mpbs deals are about 40/mo.

With streaming a lot you may want to go higher than 100mp but that's not really my realm. We get fios 5G for 120/mo and then have Hulu, Netflix and Prime apps among 3 tv's. Sometimes if all 3 were streaming (or playing multiplayer in video games) we'd get bad lag so bumped it up.

Are you asking for something outside of att and Cox? Your best bet is to just Google internet/tv services for your area.

Just me but I've always felt home phones have been a waste of money for the last 20 years.

It's fun to see the telemarketer's numbers come up on my TV screen, knowing they can't bother me because my phone isn't hooked up. I just got phone with the triple bundle.

I haven't had a home phone in 10 years, my cell is my lifeline and it's expensive enough.

I have the only available local cable for internet but it went fiber at 10/100 so I've got no complaint.

My son went the Roku route for TV but it seems he screws with it a lot and I want to keep it simple with DirecTV. He does save money and he's got 3 kids so there's that.

I had Uverse in Dallas when they first offered it but ended up going back to DirecTV. I cancelled everything ATT when they did the naming rights and laid people off and then they bought DIrecTV. There is no escaping them.

There are a lot of routes you can go and more on the horizon as the delivery of streaming and TV to your home gets even more cluttered. Internet? Not so easy as satellite has failed so far. DirecTV started DirectPC at the same time and it never worked properly so that is limited.

Have never seen a tv with phone link capabilities. Now I do have a headset for my ps4 that connects to the phone so I get notifications from that if I'm using it.

LMAO. No, I mean
I got the triple bundle: phone/cable/internet, because it was the cheapest way to get cable and internet. I don't have a phone on the wall though, I just keep one in the closet in case of emergency.

My folks are elderly and they watch a lot of TV so I made them get it. Cable/internet/home phone bundle with Cox. Last thing I need is a call telling me one broke their hip trying to get to the phone because some telemarketer called them yet again.

I have DirecTV, local cable (Cox) and my cell phone service with Verizon. It costs me more but I never have any problems and not having to screw with stuff like that and for peace of mind it's worth paying a little more for IMHO.

We have the bundle through suddenlink.

I used to really love the service. However ever since Altice took over it has went way down hill. We have had multiple problems with getting things changed, getting charges for stuff they did and so on.

Right Now I have been thinking about taking everything off except for the internet...through it all we always got great internet service...however that has even gotten spotty as of late with it going out and back in every so often.

Problem is we don't have any other viable top end internet options where I live right now. The other ones available to us are in no way in the same tier.

But now I watch so much Youtube and netflix and only a few shows on cable that I am thinking about dropping to the internet only. Keeping my youtube subscription (to keep away annoying ads), keeping netflix and maybe starting to get hulu to round it out. If the wife wants Lifetime she can get that service...if want HBO Max we can get that service as well.

TV Cable prices just keep going up and up and up and it is getting out of control.
Sadly once the market gets it that people are cord cutting and getting things online, those too will be going up.

As a full-time RVer, I guess I don't consider a 100 Mpbs wired connection to be 'cord cutting'. Instead, I have dual hotspots (ATT and Verizon) and unlimited internet service at about 10 Mpbs. I also have an over-the-air DVR. I also have a satellite dish on the roof, but have never activated it. At most locations, I can stream content without any significant delays or buffering (thanks to MIMO antenna technology). I use content providers like Prime, Netflix, Philo, Tubi, Acorn, etc. For sports, I connect to Oreo and can pretty much get any sporting event in the world--for free. I don't need no stinkin' cord.

Will look into Hulu but Verizon doesn't offer home internet/tv in my area.

Well, they {ATT, Cox} offer better prices if you bundle all 3 together, TV/Internet/Home Phone and I need the line for the Alarm.

No there isn't, I thought companies were allowed to have a monopoly? And yes, Direct TV used to be pretty good before ATT bought them out, now from what I hear they stink.

I really can't tell any difference unless I need customer service, which isn't often. One thing that did stop was getting the Sunday Ticket and RZ Channel for free with DirecTV and I read that they've decided to keep it and not let a streamer have it.

I do not know why I have DirecTV because I don't watch net or cable TV shows. I use it for local channels for problem weather and HBO. Other than that, it's Amazon, NFlix, Apple and Disney+ and I'd have HBO Max if they'd get their heads out of their butts and do the Roku deal. I had to get Roku to get Apple and Disney because my Samsung TV was bought in 2016 but I don't subscribe, just have the hardware for access. I get HBO free through my cellphone deal.

I know that I am spending more money than I need to but the work to fix that and stay on top of it isn't worth it to me. I like things simple and us codgers find the whole technology thing a little too complicated. Thermos left me behind with being able to do hot or cold and I thought only women could do that.

Most cord cutters don't bundle services that you want.
Companies try to make it seem like you save more by bundling but you really don't once you factor in taxes, equipment fees etc.

Philo TV is the cheapest when it comes to watching tv with a good amount of channels. There are youtube and reddit channels that stream NFL Network live. If you want to watch football games on NFL Network when the season start, you can get a Verizon cellphone since they broadcast Thursday and Monday night football as well as NFL Redzone on Sundays and watch the Sunday games once those games have concluded.

I saw you have an alarm. There are plenty of alarms that doesn't require home phones, have professional monitoring, and way cheaper than the big alarm companies. Ring I believe charge $100 for a full year to monitor the house and their services is eligible for the home insurance discount. All you need is internet.

Now, I don't know if you live close to city but just get an antennae to get local TV stations and then some. By this, you would save money since cable charge a fee to air local television stations.

I would look into ATT for internet only since they were running a promotion where if you get the 1000 plan, you get HBO Max free for a year.

I got rid of DirecTV years ago and it hasn't bothered me at all. I have Hulu, Amazon Prime(mainly for shipping, rarely use the video), and recently started paying a few dollars a month for a real-debrid account to use with a kodi addon to get better quality streaming for a few shows that aren't on Hulu and basically all movies. There is a site based off the reddit group that has streaming links to all NFL games. Good streams too. Not the super low quality video with tons of pop ups. There's just no need to pay +$100 a month for tv anymore when I can get everything a need and more for a tiny fraction of that.
