The Monday before the draft mock. A very defensive heavy draft using PFN.
Trade down w/ NE. 15, 46, 96, 177 for 10, 99, 179
(NE took 10. QB Jones, 96. LB Moses, 179. CB St-Juste.)
15. LB/S JOK = this guy is an athletic freak playmaker. he'd be amazing as a coverage LB.
44. FS Grant = very good ball skills and range to roam the deep middle,
46. DE Phillips = best pass rusher in the class, will push Gregory day 1, adds quality depth at DE
75. CB Campbell = good athlete and body, long and fluid, better at man vs zone, good depth
96. CB Adebo = loose hips, athletic, good ball skills, great instinks and football IQ, zone type CB
115. DT Shelvin = giant man, takes on dbles and generates push up front, run stuffer
138. LB Rice = scrappy athlete, good tackler, great LB depth addition
177. WR Newsome = quick & agile, good hands/ball skills slot WR, threat on all 3 levels, punt retuner
192 DE Rumph II = smaller hybrid DE/LB w/ great technique, processing, effort, I see perfect LEO
227. QB Book = back up QB is a need, Book could be a nice addition w/ similar skills to Prescott
238. DT Slaton = mountain inside, pair him w/ Shelvin on goal line/short yds, boom lanes clogged
I see 5 possible eventual starters from this group. JOK, Grant, Phillips, Adebo and Shelvin.
Our base D could be the nickel with JOK and LVE at LB, D-Law, Galimore, Shelvin and Phillips up front. Diggs, Adebo, Lewis, Wilson and Grant in coverage. I think this could be a great all around defense.
