Cowboys coach challenges Micah Parsons to take on stronger leadership role

There were multiple instances last year where Micah not only looked like the only defensive player putting forth max effort, but also looked like the only player who was genuinely upset about losing.

Based on what I’ve seen, I do not think Micah is a “leader of men” personality type. He just does not seem like that guy. Not everyone is built like that.

But I do hope his passion and effort rubs off on other players.

It’d be great if we could draft a couple “leader” type players.

“While speaking on Parsons, and his desire for a new contract, Schottenheimer said he hopes Parsons is in a Cowboys uniform for a long time. He then dove into the opportunity in front of Parsons to take on more responsibility."
He also said THIS..........
Not sure if you are shooting for a negative angle ..........

BTW..... This isn't anything new with Jerry and Stephen.......Stephen has ALWAYS said he expects his player with huge second to show strong leadership.

“This is an opportunity for Micah, especially, with some of the guys that we lost as leadership for Micah to step up. He's excited about that. He wants to have more leadership responsibility.” — Schottenheimer

We’ve already seen Parsons take on a more vocal role with the franchise, and the results were evident. He was sidelined for four games with an ankle injury and the defense struggled mightily without him.

Just curious, what would you like to see that he has already shown?

Its really not fair to say being on the outside looking in, but I would tend to agree with this. Micah is vocal, shows emotion on the sidelines, but I still get the sense he has some growing up to do. Being loud and the best player on the field does not make you a leader. Its one of the areas that I do worry about with this defense. Granted it could very well be addition by subtraction as Dlaw seemed to be that guy in recent years, but I would like to see someone else really take on that role than Micah, I just dont know who it would be. Micah is a guy who doesnt like to show up for voluntary mini camp, and would rather work out on his own. That's fine, a lot of guys do it, but I expect more out who I want being the on field leader.

I was like man what did I do now, no it copied like this from the website I didn't do that

Exactly
You dont have to ask leaders to “take on a leadership role” LOL
Parsons like Dak and Diggs are pretend leaders which is why this team gets nowhere

Now that Tank is gone, I have a feeling MP will do just that.
Right. I think he kind of deferred to players like Lawrence and Kendricks because of their experience level. But it's about to be his defense. Parsons, Odighizuwa and Diggs all need to step up into leadership roles on defense.

I took his "It's my time" tweet as if he was saying it's his defense to lead now.

The smart move is for Jerry to foster that attitude by prioritizing a contract. Show him you really believe in him with some leadership from the top.

Micah was never a leader nor will he be a leader.......I've heard this crap with regards to Micah since he arrived in Dallas and time and time again he's proven he's not a leader........

I just wish he'd offseason train and lift with the team, not do his own thing in Austin or wherever. I think that's important, and I get the feeling he doesn't lift as hard as he should. He should be an easy 255-260 by now.

Hmmm... sounds super familiar to when CD and Dak go their big deals and JJ/Stephen had these lofty expectations of them both elevating the team as whole. Looks like McShotty touting that company line and/or the puppetry ensuing.

And yes it's obvious to have expectations but not by themselves and thinking the outcome will change w/less personnel but paying big contracts to your stars.

Yeah which is probably one reason why he wanted the deal done early. JJ/Stephen don't understand the simple logic of it and then are pissed or wonder what happened when their big name players get hurt early in the season due to less inactivity waiting on a deal.

It's pretty hard to be a leader when you spend crunch time taking a knee on the sidelines trying to catch a second wind................... Too many times Parsons has been seen on the sideline of games in the 4th quarter looking lost and winded. He's turned himself into a ONE TREAT PONY and isn't worth the 40 million a yr, so-called experts are talking about.
