Don't shoot the messenger. I am going to remain silent on my thoughts.

The Dallas Cowboys are currently tangoing with a few of their current players looking for extensions. Dak Prescott, Trevon Diggs and CeeDee Lamb headline the list of players they’d like to re-sign this summer. By Dallas’ own admission, they want to re-sign at least two of them before training camp kicks off in Oxnard this July.

“We’d love to do more than one [before camp] if we could,” Stephen Jones said. “We’ve touched bases with everybody, knowing we’re open-minded to it.”
But it takes two to tango.

Logic says, of course the Cowboys want to get deals done sooner rather than later. They know Prescott is on the books for nearly $60 million in 2024 and Dallas needs to add years to his current deal so they can push money back.

They know there’s virtually nothing that can happen in 2023 that will prevent Diggs from getting paid like a top-5 cornerback. He has ball skills that can’t be taught and that’s not going to change.

They know Lamb has improved every season as a professional and with Brandin Cooks now on the outside taking some of the attention off him, he could set career highs again in 2023.

With these three players, there’s no time like the present to get new done because the cost is only going up. Which is also why the players may not be as eager to “dance” as Dallas is.

"Obviously, details matter and Dallas can’t make every single one the highest paid player in the league (although an argument could be made they actually could afford to do that). But as long as both sides are willing, fair market deals can get done."

Really!!!! I cant see either Diggs nor France/Dak looking at 'Fair Market', they'll probably want top market.

Why do you think France (or Dak for that matter) only signed a 4 year deal in 2021? It's foreseeing the increase in the CAP (which will have increased by 55% by the end of the contract).....they arent looking for any 'fair market deal'.

Diggs is fully aware that his worth on the open market (assisted now that he's going to be able to show his talents in 2023 as we've a very decent CB2 meaning he gets more trade).

The only "mutual fit" id CeeDee.

Ive muted this before, but I wonder if this CAP hoarding is to somewhat safeguard against Dak's $59M 2024 hit. We'd have close to $45m spare CAP (inc Dak's 2024 hit). That makes it tight, but with quite operational, especially if we sign/extend CeeDee/Steele/Biadasz (possibly Franchise Diggs) pay the signing bonus and spread the prorated CAP.

It's the only reason to hoard the 20 million as it gives them the option to make him a pre-June 1st 2024 cut.
No excuses for Prescott he either performs better (esp in the playoffs) or he is taking the Zeke road come the Spring.
Enough already with this meathead of a player, haven't we sacrificed enough in the last 7 years?????
P.S. Hey Dak-stains what do you have to show for all this Dak greatness you sell here daily?
Not much.......

this tells me if dak were reasonable, they would sign him long term this summer lol. They are still all in on him.
The only thing to prevent him being extended is for him to hold out for more $ in 24, then he has a bad season or bad playoffs.
That might change cowboys mind, but then again they may sign him again regardless.

If I was lamb, I would ask for the moon, jerry will pay him .

If we'd beaten the 9ers then Dak would have already signed a position redefining contract. France/Dak are probably still demanding a contract that reflects a player that's won or capable of winning back to back playoff wins.
Dak has time and $34m cash coming in 2024. There's no incentive for France to negotiate a 'reasonable' contract, especially as they're probably banking on the Jones being worried about the $59m CAP hit.
As there's no discount and we still have $45m available in 2024 (even after Dak's $59m hit) what's the hurry... Dak gets 2023 (and even possibly/probably 2024) to prove that he can do at 31+ what he couldn't do in his 20's.

A shark may have no intention of biting you but if they smell blood in the water their instincts to bite take over. In this case the agents (sharks) know the Cowboys suck at negotiating when they like a good player and those sharks will take the biggest bites they can.

The Dak situation is a interesting one because he's coming off leading the league in interceptions. If they do it now it will probably be under market value or what they would get if he had a big time season nexts year.

Really?? they suck it negotiations?? all ogf them all the time?

there have been very few really bad contracts,

truly if you're looking at Prescott contract from last time and saying it was bad actually it was not it was actually turns out to be a very good contract given where he's at now like 8th or 9th paid quarterback in the league as far as the total contract was concerned and the AV...

just cause it was back loaded and looks bad they actually got a good deal and please don't bring up the old narrative they should have signed him two years before you already mentioned agents there is no way in hell Prescott was signing for 28 to $30 million back then without after two years coming back and wanting more this is what quarterbacks get they can restructure every two to three years to keep in the market.

there is nothing that teams can do about it you either got to start all over or you got to pay your quarterback, I'm not saying we have to keep Prescott or extend Prescott.

I'm just telling you right now that was not a bad contract Ezekiel Elliott 's contract might have been bad when you have hindsight to look into the fact that he hurt his knee mid season two straight years the fact that 2020 dak Prescott gets lost for the year we have 11 different OL lineups, we had 17 injuries to key players and add in C19 that year it was a wash...

so yeah you look back at that contract and it was bad but other running backs were making that kind of money at the time he's not the only one they were running backs at the time and right now that made that average salary that he was making and some now are holding out because they want it as well.. so all these alleged bad contracts that you think that they don't know how to negotiate is ridiculous and also don't bring up Amari Cooper's Cleveland brown deal because we just saw Hopkins and cook get cut because they couldn't even get a fifth rounder for them and we just picked up Brandon cooks and Gilmore also for a cup of coffee this happens all around the NFL. I mean maybe the only one that makes scratch your head is possibly Jaylen Smith..

I'm sure there are a few ones that you can list that probably were bad but I don't think any more than any other teams also make nobody has a mirror into the future to know what's going to happen after you pay a player and especially at quarterback almost all of them overpay for a top ten quarterback if you need proof Daniel Jones is now making $42 million a year

Cowboys contract extensions with Prescott, Diggs, Lamb on horizon - not exactly new news.
This is the new news.

I doubt any of the deals get done.

LOL.....this is Stephen's way of saying we can them cheaper if they sign now. If you are Lamb or Diggs agent(s), you thinking why the hell would we now? We know we X amount of money already locked in our pocket. Why not use this year to sweeten the pot?

Using Dak for example.......
Today.........I'm pretty sure Stephen would love to do an average payout of $45M easy
March 2024......If he gets NFCCG under his belt.......$50M is probably Dak's floor

The "if" world is for children.
The reality is there hoarding 20 million to be able to have the option to say goodbye to Prescott once he falls on his fat forehead this coming season.
Sign him now on the cheap you're stating that we're getting a bargain on a quality QB.
Buddy wake up there is no quality to be had in Prescott just a need to be carried QB who is taking us nowhere.
If they really wanted to extend him it would have happened already and trust me there would be very little cap surplus on the books as they would be going all in as Jerry is NOT getting any younger.
Enjoy his final season as a Cowboy and happy trails when he leaves us as I'm sure you will be following him if he can find a team that is???

I know you're in panic mode as deep down you know he's gonna poop the bed this coming season.
They have added new quality pieces to the team so your excuse book won't hold up when those Turnovers (Fumbles+Interception) continue and cost us games once again.
Make corny remarks but I feel your panic and it is totally warranted as inepto Prescott will fold under the pressures which are massive esp in his head at this point.
BOO BOO BOO at home games......book it!
I'd like to say I will miss you when you leave with Dak but I won't as I prefer the Cowboy brothers who put the team first.

Why do you think France (or Dak for that matter) only signed a 4 year deal in 2021? It's foreseeing the increase in the CAP (which will have increased by 55% by the end of the contract).....they arent looking for any 'fair market deal'.
Fair market deal is a ridiculous expectation. Most guys only get paid big once. Qbs are different but Dak didn't get that big rookie contract. Of course he wanted a deal that put him in line for a big 3rd contact too.

As far as expecting guys to take "fair" deals ... that's an absolute joke. Most players are lucky to get that 2nd contact. That's going to be, for most, their biggest lifetime earnings. You'd have to be a fool not to maximize that.
