I have not been on this Forum for a long time, so I have a question? All the teams in the NFL know that you run at the Cowboys, so what does Quin need to do to stop the run?

I think Quinn already made an adjustment. I think he has the Edge guys and LBs looking more run, staying a bit more disciplined, that a chaotic pass rush on every down. The defense is getting to the edges faster preventing the big runs to the outside. They're not perfect, but they are definitely better.

They do have a habit of rushing the edges inside leaving the outside wide open for either a RB or the QB to get a big gain.

Dlaw is one of the DEs who play the run well , but other DEs vacate their assignments in order to pass rush and leave gaping holes. I think Quinn is addressing this but still needs to improve.

IMO....due to the rules really favoring the passing attack and making it easier and easier to air it out.....most defenses have to make a conscious decision to prioritize defending the pass or defending the run. It's REALLY hard to keep enough defensive pieces together to be able to make EVERYTHING a priority.

personally, I think it's smart to have a strong offense 1st and foremost...and then prioritize ur pass defense, and dare teams to commit to running the ball on you. Occasionally it might work....but if ur offense is scoring points it almost forces the other team to abandon the run just to keep up.

Just what they did against chargers. You saw a lot of pressures but only 2 sacks. The D-Line stayed in there assignments until they knew it wasn’t a run. If they keep their lanes they do well stopping the run. But if they all meet at the qb then they run right through it and by the Defense. Once we have a team one dimensional we can bring the heat. I didn’t see many blitzes. On Parsons sack I think they brought a safety. That made the double on Parsons peel off to block him. Parsons smoked the one guy and got the sack. And was bringing it again on the next play that resulted in Gilmore pick.. But with the pressures there qb was never comfortable.

On the earlier downs, we stopped doing as much stunting and looping, which gets defenders trapped on run plays and opens holes. We started that late last year instead of relying on players to outquick linemen to those holes. It affects your ability to pass rush some on those early downs, but helps you better clog the holes.

The only run defense that matters is playing with a lead.

Unless Quinn starts to get McCarthy to throw the ball and play aggressive early, it doesn't matter. The run defense isn't problematic, anyway.

Team has had issues when they run directly at Parsons when he is playing the edge. They use his aggressiveness against him and he rarely sets the edge.

There was a huge breakdown in the Arizona game, but for the most part, they have been pretty good with the run. The problem is containing mobile quarterbacks.

Giants- 3.9 ypc
Barkley- 4.3 ypc / 0 TD

Jets- 4.0 ypc
Hall 2.3 ypc / 0 TD

Cards- 7.4 ypc
Connor- 7.0 ypc / 1 TD

Pats- 2.3 ypc
Stevenson 2.1 ypc / 0 TD

49ers- 4.1 ypc
CMac- 2.7 ypc / 1 TD

Chargers- 2.3 ypc
Ekeler-1.9 ypc / 0 TD
