The Cowboys defense was able to hold Justin Fields and the Steelers offense to 226 total yards, keeping them under 100 rushing yards; the first time a team has done that all season. The pass rush was able to produce three sacks in the game, where they had only gotten two total in the three games prior. Those sacks helped keep the Steelers out of the end zone the entire first half, only allowing one field goal. That gave the offense some wiggle room to work through some of their struggles early on. And a huge contributing factor was the work by that depleted defensive line.

Heading into the game, it didn’t look to optimistic for the DL as DeMarcus Lawrence and Micah Parsons were both inactive due to injury. To make matters worse, rookie DE Marshawn Kneeland suffered a knee injury on the fourth defensive play of the game. Things were looking pretty grim for that Cowboys DL, but that didn’t seem to phase them at all. It took a collective effort from the entire DL and they all deserve a little credit.

According to PFF, the defense as a whole had 14 total pressures with seven players with having at least one pressure.

Chauncey Golston - 4
Tyrus Wheat - 2
Osa Odighizuwa - 2
Carl Lawson - 2
Joseph Linval - 1

Even the LBs joined in with three pressures.

Nice to see Golston step up. I thought a couple of seasons ago that he showed signs that he might break out and then he kind of disappeared.

IF IF IF we can play anywhere close to what we did in Pittsburgh this week, we have a good chance to win again. A good D thats stout can keep any team in a ton of games.

Big time. I did not see that coming. Proud of that entire group for elevating their game. Hopefully they can keep up the pace until Parsons and Lawrence return.

I would give the defense the edge over the offense in terms of unit improvement if they can maintain the same level of intensity and execution. 'Stepping up their game' is an intangible that has helped many teams overcome the adversity of injuries.

Lot tougher offense. The Lions are third in the league with an average of 397 yards per game. They've scored 13 TDs compared to 8 for Pittsburgh. They are seventh in passing yards per game while Pittsburgh is 27th. And they are sixth in rushing yards per game, but Pittsburgh wasn't that far behind them before playing us. Points per game they are also seventh at 26.0. I think we're going to need around 30 to beat them, so the offense has to get it done. Fortunately, Detroit's defense isn't as good as Pittsburgh's (22nd in yards, 27th in passing yards, fourth in rushing yards to Pittsburgh's fifth and 10th in scoring defense while Pittsburgh is tied for second).

If we can come out, start fast, match the Lions blow for blow, make a key turnover, we have a chance. We seem to play more lethargic at home for some reason so I'm not sure we can hang 30 on them. Our identity so far seems to be keeping the score low. Thats when we do well. The team is taking on the identity of Zimmer I think. Not sure this is a good match up. They have so many guys that can hurt us. The key is not hurting ourselves and limiting them. We will need to slow down the game and grind. This might be a great time to get Luepke even more involved. A big physical guy that can be a mismatch problem. He, Ferguson will need to be very involved. I don't see Rico having much success.
