Everyone appears to be boasting over our surprising and dominating 40-0 slaughter of the Giants. To place it in historical context it compares to two other opening season blowout and shutout performances.

1978 we opened on Monday night whooping up on the Colts 38-0. And in 1995 we opened shutting out the Giants 35-0.

Both eras the Cowboys were proven and legit SB contenders. 1978 we were coming off our 2nd SB win and of course 1995 we were coming off one of our most frustrating NFC championship losses.

The common denominator in both of those season opening shutout blowout wins were both years we ended up in the Super Bowl. While this team doesn’t have any proven championship experience they are coming off consecutive 12 win playoff seasons which only other time we achieved that is our SB era runs.

So the table is set for this 2023 team. The SB Hype I’ve tried to withstand until further evidence is here. I know it’s only one game and it could still turn for the worse . But at least this team begun the season living up to the hype .

Last year, the Bucs beat us 19-3 in the opening game and knocked out our starting QB

16 games later we were 12-5 and they were limping into the playoffs at 8-9.

Symbolism doesn’t mean a thing

It means more than what we had before kickoff. Cowboys lived up to the hype at least on opening day.

You’re either looking for a silver lining or not. I’d argue they provided one .

I don’t know about symbolism… but the defense is for real. For real.

If the offense holds up its end of the bargain and they limit turnovers and have good time of possession, this team will be one of the best in the league. Maybe the best.

That all remains to be seen but it is clear based on the last couple of seasons as well as this first game, that Dallas is talented and well coached. The defense has a chance to do something special.

They will be worthy of being called Doomsday. Finally.
