As the legendary Michael Scott once noted, you might not be superstitious, but it's OK to be a little stitious. So when the Dallas Cowboys took the field against the Arizona Cardinals on Friday the 13th, it played out exactly as you'd think it would. They lost a total of five players to injury, headlined by starting defensive tackle Neville Gallimore, who left the game in the first quarter with what turned out to be a hyperextended elbow. The MRI results showed a near best-case scenario though, sources tell CBS Sports, with Gallimore having suffered no tears and only a minor structural issue.

He's expected to miss the remainder of the preseason and potentially Week 1 as well -- his timetable being 4-6 weeks -- but the 10-day span between the Cowboys first two regular season games gives him a shot at being available when they travel to take on the Los Angeles Chargers on Sept. 19.

They really got lucky with Gallimore. Right now the biggest question marks are backup QB and offensive line. Nsehke nursing an ankle and Knight playing poorly they’re going to have to address that before the season starts. Not to mention backup center. Can’t trust Williams until he shows marked improvement. As for QB, the team seems fine with Gilbert but I don’t. Then again, I’m not a coach and there every practice. He definitely needs more playing time.

So far--and I'm knocking on wood really hard as I say this--this preseason has been remarkably injury-free. We haven't lost anyone of note (or anyone at all?) for the season. The guys with lingering stuff really do seem to be coming back (Dak, Amari, a bit more uncertainty with Lawrence I guess) as promised, unlike the Collins situation last year. In recent years, it always felt like half the rookie class ended up red-shirting because of injuries--also not the case this year. Crossing my fingers and toes...

I foresee some more roster juggling and a few surprising cuts and keeps on the initial 53.

I predict Gallimore won’t play until week 3, and not the whole game. Additionally, he won’t positively impact the defense until week 5 or 6. They almost always take longer.

Not could. Will miss.

But the injury was far less than first feared.
