If the Cowboys are healthy on the OL and want to play their best five , it’s likely to mean putting off the long term plan of Tyler Smith protecting Prescotts left side at LT, particularly because Steele has recovered from knee surgery and is ready to play RT again.

Two spots are settled as Cowboys pursue third consecutive trip to the playoffs . Martin at RG and Biadasz is the center .

When Tyron was ready to return from hamstring injury last December , Steele had already sustained a major knee injury . Instead of moving Tyler across the line to give Tyron his old spot the Cowboys put Tyron at RT where he stayed the final 6 games including 2 playoff games .

The 32 year old Tyron Smith hasn’t played a full season since 2015 missing 33 of 50 games over the last 3 regular seasons because of injury. His contract is up after this year which means the permanent move of Tyler Smith to LT appears imminent.

With McGovern signing with Buffalo in offseason the Cowboys are in search of a more permanent solution for LG. In the meantime as long as everyone is healthy it appears Smith and Smith will line up next to each other on the left side . And this could be the strongest our OL has been in years.

That's fine but the issue is when Tyron gets hurt...

injuries will happen. Tyron will miss games. so we have to have the depth. the question is which back up is better, the LT or the LG.

also, it will probably be mid seasonish before steele can get in form, since his injury happened mid year. I don't think he will be full strength this year and we should expect some struggles and probably if he has some pains as a result, may miss sometime. the OL is less than settled.

and this is critical because more than any other position group. perhaps the only position group, that they have to work well together. one failure and the whole thing falls apart, regardless of the other 4. winning as a group is key, not as individual battles.

Of course but at least to begin the season assuming there’s no preseason or camp injuries this appears to be our starting lineup. And it’s arguably the best we have had in years. It’s just a matter of how long can they hold up .

And not if but when
Hey, I’m just trying to put a positive thread out there. Lol

Who knows , maybe in his final contract season he’ll miraculously play a full season .

But based on history it’s more likely a matter of when not if . Who knows Martin is getting up there in age as well. Imagine we lose Smith, Steele and Martin on OL. Seasons basically over .

This was a positive story in the paper this morning. I thought I’d share it. Have a great day Cowboy fans .

It’s probably unrealistic to expect Steele to play this season at his pre ACL form as well.

Just look at Gallup. I know different for skill players coming back from that injury, but more food for thought when projecting for this season’s line.

Thank you some of us have been saying that for a while.

Edoga, Farniok and Waletzko are very capable backups. In fact, some think Farniok and Waletzko are future starters.

Digging deeper we know that the Cowboys are optimistic either Hoffman or Lindstrom can adequately take over short term for Biadasz if needed.

I loved the Richards pick and think he can start at G in 2024 if needed.
