INDIANAPOLIS - TheRanchReport.com brings you the latest from the NFL Combine in Indianapolis.

In what has become a comman theme in recent years, the Dallas Cowboys once again appear to be serious about acquiring additional talent on the defensive line and at linebacker.

Earlier this weekend it was learned the Cowboys have talked extensively to several defensive prospects, including Georgia defensive lineman Charles Johnson.

“Some of the teams have talked to me about playing outside linebacker," Johnson said. "The Dallas Cowboys have talked to me about working out at outside linebacker a little bit while I’m here.”

Johnson, who measured in 6-2 and 270 pounds this weekend in Indianapolis, said he's close to his ideal weight.

“I played right at 265/270 this year," he said. "I was about 285 last year though.

"I'm a good run stopper and a pass rusher. I can do both. I'm a complete defensive end, so whoever is looking for an all-around defensive end is who should pick me up."

In addition to the Cowboys, Johnson has also talked extensively with the Cincinnati Bengals.

Johnson is currently the No. 4 ranked defensive end available in the 2007

Bobby Carpenter isn't the ideal 3-4 outside linebacker so I thought they would go after another LB/DE type this year especially with all the talented defensive players in this draft....

The headline is misleading. I am sure we are going to take a DE at some point in the draft. Just reading that headline lead me to believe when we are on the clock at 22.

haha I got busted on for taking Johnson with the Jags pick in our mock draft so I can only imagine how bad this board would blow up if we took him.

I think hes a pretty good prospect though.

lol the ranch report is being considered a new source now? lol the only thing thats even credible from that site is anything that glazer puts up. this article really isnt even an article its a post probably by roy philpot. i got banned from there because he posted about the people the cowboys had interviewed before last years draft. lol but it was a insider story and it was about a rb. i had known that the cowboys had interviewed wendell mathis at fresno states proday. and i said it was probably him. he pm'd me and told me ur banned for invading my insider information lol. that site is bogus. who charges for fan sites anyways. especially one that doesnt have any affiliation to the team its about.

That's not necessarily true. Lawrence Taylor, Carl Banks, Derrick Thomas, Kevin Greene, Greg Llyod, and Chad Brown all played OLB in a 3-4 at 240-245 pounds. I would think we all agree they played the position pretty well. Joey Porter is a 250 pound OLB in the 3-4 and is a baller.

Carp is 250-255 pounds, so his weight should not be a factor. His skills will dictate if he is suited to be an above average 3-4 OLB. To be honest, I wasn't sold on drafting him last year. He did however show me something at the end of the season when we actually put him outside. I think an offseason in our strength program and Wade Phillips new style may make him a player. We'll see. I would still like to give him the shot and if we do add a DE/OLB he should be in the 4th round or so IMHO.
