Cowboys not the only team hoping for a strong running game

I love running the ball
But we won't see too many 2 high shells

Who puts 350 passing plays in a playbook then expects the QB to look good. It's not the defenses that's confusing these QB's.

That's why the NFL has always been a run the ball, stop the run league to me. More game changing errors occur in the passing game.

Other than the Seahawks, the other 3 have running QB's, so no surprise there. If the pass play called breaks down, the QB runs as a RB.

Sure but running also isn’t the only option either. I wish teams would run more empty sets and try to flood the zones instead of saying “well the only way to beat this is running”

A lack of intelligent and skilled throwing qb's is the real reason. A large part of them are in the retirement home, and a group is about to go

More QBs need to be part of the running game, they got special rules on tackling them even when they run the ball. Might as well take advantage of it.

The game is constantly evolving. With defense playing more shell coverage, focusing on pass rush specialist on the dline, and exchanging LBs for Safeties why would you not run the ball more?

For years we have witnessed the passing game absolutely explode in this league to the point where even average QBs can put up 350 yards any given week. Defenses have adjusted and are finally catching up to the pass heavy attacks. The rules favor the passing game too much for it to completely flip, but I would anticipate the trend of run heavy teams continues for a while. The piece to keep an eye on is how do they do that. Is it with more dual threat QBs or a more traditional approach.

Eventually defenses will start prioritizing interior run stoppers and off ball LBs again (some already are) to stop the run game and the better throwers in the league will feast once again once that happens.
