Dallas’ injury woes were bad enough before losing Connor McGovern on the opening drive of the game after only featuring in eight snaps. He was replaced by Matt Farniok.

Terrance Steele struggled throughout the game, particularly on pass protection, and got the lowest grade on the offensive line. He was getting pushed back beyond the line of scrimmage and forcing Dak Prescott to leave the pocket on multiple occasions. He also jumped offside multiple times and got flagged for offensive holding.

Zack Martin, proving once more why he is one of the top right guards in the NFL, looked comfortable and solid both in the run blocking and pass protection, but it feels like now Martin is having to do double the effort in support of Tyler Biadasz.

With the very limited time practicing at left tackle, Tyler Smith impressed, but the mistakes he made, in conjunction with Farniok, cost the Cowboys as they ended up seeing Dak injured.

Overall the run blocking was working and Zeke was getting 5.2 yards per carry average on 10 attempts. Why the team stepped away from the run game only Kellen Moore knows. The whole game in pass protection was good for the majority of the game, but the continuity among the offensive line and basic mistakes appeared and resulted in the Buccaneers getting four sacks and three tackles for loss in the backfield. But overall, it wasn’t the disaster on the offensive line that many predicted.

I get what you are saying buddy but losing our starting qb in game one logically says something a bit different

You’re obviously responding to the title not the entire message which was the OL wasn’t the disaster many thought it would be.

I agree. Deep into the 4th quarter they only let up 2 sacks to a good bucs defense.....not shabby at all

Burrows line would have allowed 6+ to that defense and Daks lack of mobility wasn't a factor

I agree, the OL was good enough and did a very good job run blocking. What killed the Cowboys were the DL games, the stunts, twists and blitzes. The Bucs took advantage of the Cowboys inexperience individually and together. Communication will improve as will Smith and Farniok. Running some draw plays at the right times could catch the defense in those games and out of position for some big plays.

I read your message and I agree with many of your takes, don’t get me wrong, I also think you get what I’m saying too…so if they were as bad as we thought they would have been maybe dak breaks something bigger!

just coping with the crap fest is all my man

The pass protection was not good buddy. And the excessive penalties put us in 3rd and long on nearly EVERY drive and sometimes multiple times on drives.

The run blocking seemed better, but they were rushing 4 most of the time and were playing a 2 deep nickel daring us to run.

I understand but the theme of my thought is , it wasn’t as bad or the total disaster many thought it was going to be aside of losing Dak.

Right, I think many were expecting a complete disaster . Like we saw against Atlanta a couple years ago after Smith went down .

Kellen Moore doesn't call plays to help out the young OL. After Farniok had to go in, they had an entire left side playing in their first real NFL game plus Terence Steele, who is still raw. You have to adjust your playcalling to get your OL more comfortable out there vs. a really good front 7. That means you have to stick to the run, find ways to get the ball out sooner, etc. We all knew the Bucs had some OL issues on their own but they still came out and committed to the run to loosen up the defense.

Instead, they went pass-happy and of course your OL is going to make mistakes when they don't have any type of rhythm on the field.

Well if you expect 0....and get a 1....yeah it is better than expected. But still very very very bad. So let's not get carried away.
Like Dak was at the end of the game.

It was better than the narrative that came out. Once again a failure by the Cowboys to make game time adjustments; from Moore in play calling to McCarthy as HC.

We clearly were able to run the ball decently and should have kept at it; run the ball until you force the D to close it up and then you pass.

That formula has worked for something like 100 years in football but Moore and company do not seem to get it.

How many games over the years have we seen the Cowboys abandon the run far too early?

Tyler Smith is just what I thought he would be, a legit starter who will eventually become dominant once his technique gets straightened out.

I ultimately want to see him at LG, especially now that Dak is out. And Peters at LT, by game 3.

Having Tyler at LG will likely increase Zeke's production, and if Peters does his job it will help our QBs.

We just have to get a new QB. Like this week. To hand the job to Cooper Rush for several games is a disaster waiting to happen. Dude doesn't have the right kind of arm for the NFL.

They also need to get Hendershot involved, imo.
