The Dallas Cowboys have received their post-June 1st salary cap space from the Michael Gallup release.
By RJ Ochoa Jun 2, 2024

Generally speaking the post-June 1st designation exists so that teams can release players in March and allow them the opportunity to find new homes while saving as much as they want to from an accounting perspective. It would be the worst kind of situation if teams had to wait until June to actually do it.

But even though the designation is set months earlier the salary cap relief that comes does not happen until June arrives which is why the subject is relevant today. When the Dallas Cowboys released Michael Gallup earlier this offseason they made him a post-June 1st designation.

While Gallup will carry a cap charge of $8.7M in 2025, there is now almost $10M opened up in 2024 by way of his release. Entering the month the Cowboys had $3.8M in cap space according to OverTheCap so if they want to get a little bit more active in things they now have the room to do so.

That 8.7 in 2025 really sucks. I hope we do something with this money this year. Is there any DTs available that can help the run game. Or a RB veteran? Call me crazy but I’m not liking Zeke, Deuce, Dowdle and that other guy as our RBs.

Here’s what was still available on May 23.

Best Remaining Defensive Line Free Agents, 2024:

  • Calais Campbell
  • Hassaan Ridgeway
  • Lawrence Guy
  • Bryan Mone
  • Linval Joseph
  • Al Woods
  • Mike Purcell
  • Tyson Alualu
  • Matt Dickerson

Best Remaining Running Back Free Agents, 2024:

  • Dalvin Cook
  • Cam Akers
  • Joshua Kelley
  • Latavius Murray
  • Kareem Hunt
  • Matt Breida
  • Jerick McKinnon
  • Jakob Johnson
  • Kevin Smith
  • Melvin Gordon
  • Alex Armah
  • Brandon Bolden
  • Eno Benjamin
  • Ke’Shawn Vaughn
  • Deon Jackson
I’d prefer them trade for someone now that they have some room to absorb their salary hit.

Articles on the mothership are already covering for big and little giving up all sorts of excuses as to why that money can’t possibly be spent

I thought Linval Joseph was good when he came out of college, but not sure at 35.

For RB I used to like these guys, it’s crazy how fast RBs go downhill:
  • Dalvin Cook
  • Latavius Murray
  • Kareem Hunt
  • Matt Breida
  • Jerick McKinnon
  • Kevin Smith

Nice, thank you for the info. I agree with the trade idea as well as long as Jerry doesn’t get fleeced.

The results of being a bitter Cowboys fan. Even good news gets crapped on.
lol youre made im speaking the truth. No hate here. There is nothing wrong with rolling that $$ to compensate for Lamb and Dak.

That is a more likely scenario than them adding a top tier free agent at $9 million

Only back on that list I’d be interested in is Jet. He’d give the team a little pop on the backend. Maybe get a Zeke/pollard type year out of Zeke/Jet.

Once they sign Dak and or Cee Dee their cap hit will go down probably. That’s how it usually happens. So in other words, they can do both.

LOL, in other threads you literally rip posters for criticizing their FA plan by backing the Cowboys claims they have cap issues. You even said they spend up to the cap all the time. But yet here you are pointing out that they could have saved a lot of cap space this year by signing Dak and CD.

In other words, the Cowboys claiming cap poor this year and why they basically sat out FA was a lie. That you seem to buy depending on what thread you are in.

Dude, I have no clue what you’re talking about. I never said I agreed with how the FO ignored FA. I guess that’s what you’re talking about. I’ve wanted them to sign both since the Packers game. Not sure what your problem is.

1. they wont save space they could create space 20 with dak, and 10 mil with CD
2. it was lol, they could have created space, but didnt want to ,
They also were not ready to sign dak and cd, and they didnt want to sign anyone for more than this year.
So by not creating any speace, they didnt have much to spend, and most guys want more than 1 year deal.

The jones boys have a plan lol, just they are not saying what it is !
