Pro Football Focus took a look at the salary cap health of each of the NFL’s 32 teams and determined the Cowboys rank 12th entering the coming season.

Some of this content is premium PFF which I don't have access to but it does show the Cowboys rank in several categories of their salary cap health.
I also was surprised at their rank. I would have thought it would have been higher.

DALLAS COWBOYS — RANK: 12
The Cowboys stayed very competitive in 2022 despite losing a lot of talent the offseason prior, including wide receivers Amari Cooper and Cedrick Wilson, edge defender Randy Gregory and offensive linemen La’el Collins and Connor Williams. After finishing 12-5 for the second consecutive season, even with Dak Prescott missing a chunk of the season, Dallas is one of just three teams to rank in the top 12 in top 51 veteran valuation and 2023-25 cap space.
Massive extensions loom for cornerback Trevon Diggs, wide receiver CeeDee Lamb and edge defender Micah Parsons, but Dallas is a legitimate Super Bowl contender in 2023 and acted like it this offseason with somewhat uncharacteristic trades for wide receiver Brandin Cooks and cornerback Stephon Gilmore.
