The Dallas Cowboys are making a small change on the QB depth chart after starter Cooper Rush struggled in Sunday’s frustrating loss to the Philadelphia Eagles.

According to Newy Scruggs of NBC5, the Cowboys are adding veteran quarterback Will Grier to the practice squad this week.

...Grier spent time with the Cincinnati Bengals, New England Patriots, and Los Angeles Chargers last season. The Carolina Panthers originally drafted Grier in the third round of the 2019 NFL Draft.

Despite a solid first half from Rico Dowdle and the Dallas run game, the Cowboys couldn't convert on manageable down and distance situations, finishing the day 3-14 on third down to go along with six punts. 3rd and manageable has been a place that McCarthy has wanted to be at for weeks with this offense but couldn't execute when it presented itself against Philadelphia...

It didn't go down the field at all through the air, as Rush went 0/6 on passes more than 10 yards downfield, with the Cowboys becoming the seventh team this season to not have completed a pass with 10 or more air yards in a game.

Regardless of the outcome, McCarthy was pleased with getting Lance some valuable reps.

You know, except for CeeDee losing the ball in the sun, the Cowboys would have been leading at the end of the first half.
Rush wasn't doing as bad as the Dak lovers would like everyone to think.
He wasn't great, but he was still playing better than Dak would have been.
At least he wasn't throwing interceptions. The Eagles had to drive the length of the field to score.
It makes a difference.

The second player we cut who we’re reuniting with. That’s the kind of season it’s been. We’re stuck bringing in players no one else wants. This gives you an idea what life without Dak would be like in 2025 had we not extended him. A carousel of castoffs.

Just like …

Dallas traded for Jonathan Mingo. He isn’t able to grasp the playbook in a watered down offense and is inactive.

Pittsburgh trades for Mike Williams the same exact day. He scores the winning TD against Washington

We just keep adding to the mediocrity.

I would've been fine with that. We wouldn't be paying cast-offs $60m/year and it gets you at a position to draft a replacement.

It could take years to find a quality replacement and what we’ll be going through the rest of the season could be going on for a number of seasons. Sounds like some of you would rather go cheap at QB and lose.

You should probably go back and rewatch that game.

He threw for 45 yards. Don’t die on that hill.

He had 2 passes right in the hands of defenders, they were both dropped by the Eagles players. Had two fumbles, just as bad as ints.
He threw for TWO yards per completion, missed receivers right, left and up the middle.

He was horrible. Not saying a lot of that wasn't the Eagles good play, but Rush played like a raw rookie...
