Very good read!

The Cowboys have to figure out what life is going to look like in 2024 without Sam Williams.
By Sean Martin
Jul 29, 2024

Ahead of this year’s free agency period, defensive end appeared to be a position the Cowboys could keep as a strength of their defense while transitioning from Dan Quinn to Mike Zimmer as coordinator. Knowing the team prioritizes retaining their own free agents while equally counting on homegrown talent to develop instead of overpaying outside players, Dallas had choices to make with two pass rushers on expiring deals in Dante Fowler Jr. and Dorance Armstrong. Both players opted to follow Quinn, and the money, to Washington, and the Cowboys sat on their hands in trying to replace either of the pair that accounted for 11.5 of the team’s 46 sacks a year ago. On Sunday, this equation changed even further for the worse, as the Cowboys also lost third-year DE Sam Williams to an ACL tear at practice. Williams had 4.5 sacks in 2023 after totaling four his rookie season.

The year three jump paired with an expected boost in playing time thanks to the loss of players ahead of him on the depth chart over his first two seasons were both things the team was banking heavily on for 2024.

We have a grand total of 1 pass rusher.

What's worse than a front office that can't address needs? A front office that doesn't even know the need exists.
Hell we barely have one, according to everyone he's doubled every play. The same way Guyton had good reps against him, is the same way other OTs have good reps against him during games. I just don't get it! With that said we didn't have many people taking advantage of him being doubled last year, how will it change this year

It's unbelievably pathetic that people on a football forum can see and pinpoint the needs of an NFL team and the GM/owner can't. It's painfully obvious where the holes are on this roster. The 2 idiots in charge are too stubborn to admit they can't get it done.

They feel that we have#11 and are paying #90 so much money that they alone should get us 54 sacks

But we have 5 solid tight ends
And they added 2 UFL WR's. And now have 14 on the roster.
With Williams now on IR, they have 12 DL.

I think there are 2 open roster spots. Sam on IR, if he was officially placed on it, and Conley was released.

Well it could be 54 holding penalties on Micah alone if they would call them. Or if they did not hold him, then 54 sacks or QB hits (if they don't call roughing).

Osa is one of the best passrush DTs in football. You'd think all the experts here would know that...

Yes. The guy who is about to go a full calendar year between sacks as a starting 3 tech is one of the best pass rushing DTs.

Allow me to show you this chart.
