OXNARD, Calif. — After successful workouts with the team, the Dallas Cowboys signed linebacker Nick Vigil, defensive tackle Albert Huggins and linebacker Darius Harris on Tuesday, as defensive coordinator Mike Zimmer adds three new bodies to the defensive side of the ball.

To make room for the new faces, the Cowboys waived rookie undrafted linebacker/defensive end Byron Vaughns, moved wide receiver CeeDee Lamb to the reserve/did not report list as he continues his contractual-related holdout from training camp, and moved Sam Williams to the injured reserve after he suffered a season-ending torn ACL earlier in training camp.

[Vigil, a third-round pick of the Cincinnati Bengals in the 2016 NFL Draft, reunites with Zimmer after having started 12 games and accounting for 85 tackles for the Minnesota Vikings in 2021. He also reunites with Cowboys defensive run game coordinator Paul Guenther who was Vigil's defensive coordinator in Cincinnati for two seasons. The last two seasons have seen Vigil battle some injuries that kept him on the injured reserve in 2022 and resorted him to the practice squad for the Vikings in 2023.

Huggins, a 6-foot-3, 305-pound defensive tackle who has played for five different teams in five seasons, started in five games for the Atlanta Falcons last season and accounted for 22 tackles in the most action he's participated in throughout his NFL career. Huggins spent one month on the Minnesota Vikings' practice squad in 2020 when Mike Zimmer was still the head coach. With the Cowboys needing help at defensive tackle, Huggins could factor in at either spot in the interior given his experience although his physical skillset could be better suited for a backup role to Osa Odighizuwa.

Harris, who is a two-time Super Bowl champion including last year's title with the Kansas City Chiefs, is playing for a new team for the first time in his NFL career. After being acquired as an undrafted free agent out of Middle Tennessee State in 2019 by the Chiefs, Harris spent four seasons in Kansas City – participating in 33 games and accounting for 58 tackles. His best season came in 2022 when he played in all 17 games and racked up 43 tackles.]

Well the way I see it they look like camp bodies to everyone else which is probably correct more likely they're for the preseason games you know they're not going to play any starters so they're going to have to have a lot of dudes go a lot of minutes so they needed to just go ahead and use those spots they had open with healthy players..

However at least it shows that Zimmer is getting some of his own guys in here that he's comfortable with that he knows you never know one of them could take a spot maybe not from a starter but churning that bottom of the roster you know with depth...

Everyone will yawn at these and go Super Bowl and they'll be sarcastic and they realize that every team does this they all have players like this on their rosters got 90 players that's gonna be cut down to 60 so they're looking for bodies but you never know when 1 just pops up and ends up on the roster...

Is this just normal churn at the bottom of the roster or are we so bad these are impactful signings?
Yes it is very normal all teams do it how do you think they put 90 players on what's gonna be a 43 man roster with 53 active players and another 10 on the practice squad there's a lot of players are gonna be cut but they need bodies to play and every once in a while you might find a guy but don't you find it ironic you don't know this when all these players pictures are with other teams logos and helmets on their bodies it means they're other teams they have played for in the same capacity they move around you can't build a roster in the NFL without having dudes at the bottom of the roster for depth or for an injury for whatever the reason you have to have these types of guys...so YES it is very normal.. Every single team has these guys on there that's why I've never understood when people freak out and act like the Jones family or they only want to bring in players like this no that'd be all teams every single NFL team especially this time of year...

My big take away from this - I'm optimistic this is a sign the Cowboys will still be looking at FA's after the cut day.

There are a couple of positions I'd like to see if the Cowboys could upgrade.

I like the Huggins pickup. JAG, but at this point we should be happy to get one at DT. And he seems somehow to get some decent stats per snap for a DT with only 36% snaps,

Harris too. Got play time on a SB team. Not a bum.

Good dumpster diving. Guys who did something more than warm a bench.
