I got you now. This team's lack of urgency is maddening. They rarely sign key players early. Then the market continually resets and they end up having to overpay. Then they do overpay their guys; which in turn becomes the built-in excuse for being inactive in free agency.

I actually don't mind not paying early because you never get surplus value when you do that. I do mind the tag and 5th year option, because they are the worst allocation of cap dollars.

Saving salary cap dollars means spending cash in guarantees. Instead of paying Pickens, say, $50m in cash with a $18m cap hit this year with an extension, he's paying $27m cash with a $27m cap hit. The issue is that Jerry doesn't want to cough up that other $20m or whatever it is.

Cash and cap aren't the same. The more cash you spend, the less you spend against the cap, to a degree.

Well for Jerry the process is just telling his money manager to get some liquidity. Yes, it is that easy.

Literally the first thing I said was they are cheap with cash.

That is this year.

2024: 16th
2023: 11th
2022: 29th
2021: 2nd

Their average cash spend is middle of the pack.

But the ranking also doesn't matter. They have the cap space to do more, and are choosing not to because they don't want to spend the cash.

I just don't know what they are doing. Maybe its above my paygrade maybe its some financials they are holding off of. Maybe there's a method to the madnesss but its hard for me to understand why wait for him to do what we all sort of feel he's going to do? He's going to dominate again. Either he dominates or he sucks and we let him walk. Does anyone see him sucking? I don't know I just don't understand it. I'm a fan of his. Through the good and bad. Always was.

Him playing on the tag with no guarantees of the future....it show she bought in. I would never do it. I don't think many would. What ever reputation he had should be washed away after what he's doing now.

Probably because it’s the only year he ever performed at that level ever. I don’t mind a measured approach with him at all. He’s a guy who in the past wasn’t the best in the locker room or with his role.

Typically it always benefits to pay before the price raises but not on this one, it’s a real concern paying TWO receivers top of the league money- we can do it but I’d wanna see another year also
