Lions defender with $67 million in bank projected to be Cowboys target

The Cowboys continue to look at the markets to find help, and they might be able to snare help in the defensive middle if they're patient.

I hate these articles that are based hopes and dreams. We never sign who we "should" sign.

Im only interested in hearing about tangible interest

This is 10000% the type of move the Cowboys need to make, but this is where I remain skeptical that they will actually pursue him seriously due to his cap number. If they bring in Reader I'm pretty much in on the Cowboys for 2025. What I dont understand is why they couldnt have just signed him in FA a year ago?

In all fairness, Reader was a 5th rounder. I'm sure Cincy fans and even their coaches/FO didn't know he would turn into a stud 1-tech DT.

He developed and was in the right system for him to excel. I don't have high expectations for Justin Rogers (last year's 7th round DT) or the two drafted this year in the 7th round. However, who knows if they can build a good career.

That being said, I wouldn't be against picking up Reader if he is released or if the trade value is a 6th or 7th rounder.
Reader was drafted by Houston. He had already proven to be a stud when Cincy signed him to a 2 year 26 mil contract in FA.

The did the lame duck blow it up and saved the dry powder for this year.

Mazi and a 4th for Reader. So we can complain about not having another 4th round pick.
However we get a 5th in turn. They love their 5th round picks.

i think they would only go after a vet FA 1 tech if they'd come cheap - ala late round trade or street FA .. much like we did with Jon Hankins in a late rd pick mid season trade
or a street FA such as Lindell Joseph last year.

DJ reader would have to be a casualty cap cut for this club to consider pursuing Plus i would have thought if Lions were interested in cutting Reader, they would have already
done so by now.

The Lions can try to trade him first before cutting him. I'm certain that the Cowboys would be interested in him as an upgrade.

June 1 is the next date to look at, some discount deals could be had, but hopefully the Cowboys are working the phones gaging the price for a 1T. Reader would be nice, but there needs to be other Cowboys writers talking about 1T for me to even think the Cowboys are hunting for one.
