First road playoff win in 29 years, first win against Tom Brady in what took 8 tries, first time getting back to back seasons of 10-plus wins since 1995-1996, first time going to the playoffs back to back seasons since 2006-2007, most extra points missed in a single game in NFL history, all of the records were being broken last night.
The Cowboys teams that we have seen limp through most of the 2000s would have folded immediately after the back to back 3 and outs by our offense but the defense locked in and locked down the greatest playoff QB of all time when it mattered the most.
The Cowboys teams we have known before would have let Tampa claw back in the game after half. This team just just hit the gas and left no doubt.
The Cowboys teams we dealt with in the Garret era and beyond would have never survived the level of attrition Dallas has dealt with in the secondary and on the offensive line this year. Mike and DQ are real coaches who have steadied the ship.
This team is 4th in scoring offense and 5th in scoring defense. We have not seen balance like this in decades. Our stars all showed up and played like stars last night.
I know many of us thought this team was going to be like all the others when it mattered the most, but last night proved that they just might have what it takes to break the nearly 30 year old curse's back once and for all. Watching the game last night I kept expecting the Cowboys to do Cowboy things... turnover the ball when you absolutely can't have it, rack up a ludicrous amount of penalties, play down to a clearly inferior opponent, only have one side of the ball playing good football at a time, make ridiculous coaching decisions, fall apart after an in game line shuffle, but none of these things happened.
Beating SF will be a very tall order, and even if Dallas plays a great game they may still fall short, but I think there is absolutely no reason to enjoy this moment and BELIEVE IN THIS TEAM. There might be something special cooking in Dallas this season. Even Troy seemed excited about the way this team played.
The rest of the NFL watching that game last night was put on notice that this isn't the same Cowboys team that is an easy out every year in the playoffs; Win, lose, or draw this team is going to make you earn the W.
A playoff win over the greatest QB to ever do it and now Dallas renews their storied rivalry with the 49ers. It doesn't get better than that. Keep the faith CowboysZone, perhaps the best is yet to come!
