So I recently checked my credit score/report.

Somehow, I have a bill in collections from the local electric company. Didn't sound right to me because I haven't had an electric bill in my name for over 3 years and the account went into collections last November.

So I called up the collections company and the lady says she has no record of my account. Gave her a name, nothing. Reluctantly gave my SS#, still nothing.

So I appealed the report. I mean, that's what the lady told me to do.

And I just got an email saying that my appeal was denied.

What a ****ing joke.

What is this crap? It's something that is taken very seriously by lenders but apparently credit reporting agencies don't care to verify claims.

What the hell is that? Does anyone else know of a system that is so widely looked to in order to make a decision but so ****ed up in terms of reporting?

What are you supposed to do? Bend over and take a reaming on behalf of some screwed up ranking system?

Anyone ever had this happen?

How do you get something taken off your report?

Can you go to your bank and have them do it?

Did you get it in writing that your account is clear and that it was in good standing from the electric company?

Send everything by registered mail so you know they got it.

Did you check all three major credit reports or just one. If it only shows on one that is another piece of evidence that your report should be corrected.

If I had negative tradeline on one of my Credit Reports that I knew wasn't mine, I would:

1) Call the electric company, ask them to write a letter stating that I have never had an account with them and/or I have never had an account that was outstanding and sent to collections. I would kind make it seem like the electric company made a mistake to get them to do this. I would then send this to the Credit Bureau in question.

2) If that doesn't work, I would send the Credit Bureau a letter stating that I believe I have been a victim of identity theft, I have a negative tradeline on my Credit Report which the electric company has stated in writting is not mine and the other 2 bureaus are not reporting. I would let them know that I expect them to clear this item up as quickly as possible, as this is obviously fraud and I am not able to obtain decent interests because of it.

Option 2 will get their attention extremely fast, trust me.

Thank you for pissing me off...

A couple of years ago someone from a collections agency called my wife at work and threatened her with claims of delinquency etc. and told her basically he was going to make her life hell.

We had to live in some local apartments until our house was finished being built. When we left we were told to change the electricity over to the apartment company. We did as we were told.

I was livid when my wife told me that some guy on the phone threatened her. I called him immediately and told him that I would drive up the road to where he is, sharpen his toes, and pound him into the ground like a tent spike if he ever called my wife again.

I had to spend about a week getting letters sent to the collection agency from the apartment company stating that we were in the clear.

What pisses me off most about the whole thing was the fact that I had to prove that they were wrong and not the other way around.

Nah, I haven't gotten anything in writing yet. Just figured it out the other day. Gonna make the calls here after a bit. Wait times at the electric company are like 45 minutes right now. Really sucks.
