After reading 3 draft magazines, reading info at several draft sites & watching the combine on the NFL network, I really really want us to draft Curtis Brown. He is extremely athletically gifted. The only knock I could find on him is that he isn't a great at tackling. Any one else know much about him?

Extremely fluid athlete. He needs a bit more mass on his bones. I'd love to take the guy in the 3rd round.

after watching him for 4 years, the only true knock in his game that I see is his butterfingers as a punt returner. I mean he puts too many punts on the turf.

He's a good football player. I will be surprised if he's still there at 71. I think we would have to take him in the 2nd round or make some moves to move back into the 2nd if we wanted him.

We have Allen Ball already on the roster, and he is one of the best in the NFL at not being great at tackling. :starspin

Then no thanks, he doesn't impress me any. Davon House looks better.

Ball is actually tied with Mike Jenkins. It's not that they are terrible at tackling, it's that they tackle imaginary runners.

Because you've actually seen Devon House play at New Mexico State, right? Or, is the simply fact House ran a 4.3 at his pro day?

nope I have watched him, he was high on my list back in January. Sorry dude but I'm not that guy that looks at just 40 times, the bench press #s. I also don't just look a weight or height. I don't care if a DT is 340 pounds if he sucks. I don't care if you can bench 225 40 times, I can do it 26 times and I can't be a NFL LB. I don't care if you can run a 4.2 40 if you can't cover a twin size bed with a king size blanket. I don't even care that much about one on ones at the senior bowl. I look at the games, I watch ton a college football.

See thats the thing about most people this time of year. They forget about how the players played and now look at measurements and combine results. I stay pretty true to my list from January after the bowl games.

I live in Tennessee and we have several SEC games so I watch the best of the best all year round. I DVR almost every college game and I buy the package on Direct TV every year.

So I need to ask you a question. Are you high on Curtis Brown? Do you like him only because plays for Texas? Do you not like Davon House? Why do you not like House?

I think House needs to bulk up alittle but late 2nd early 3rd is good value for him. He is a better man cover CB and press man CB than Curtis Brown is. I like House more than I like Williams as a CB. Now I like Williams more for a Nickel CB and to develop him over the next few years to become a FS. I think Williams will be a great FS and would be a better Nickel CB than Scandrick day one.

But don't get me wrong, I like Brown as a 3rd round CB, I just don't want to spend a 2nd on him. @nd round CBs should be able to play his first year, may not start but should be able to play. I don't see Brown as much of a contributor this year. House is more of a complete cover CB now.

So you live in Tennessee, but you're able to watch New Mexico State?

Hmmm, how much televised WAC football do they televise down there, especially being in the SEC, lol.

Do the regional TV programmers say "hey, we absolutely have get our standard Georgia, Vols, Auburn, et cetera SEC football, but let's see if we can work in a few Western Athletic Conference games over here too."

C'mon man.

I'm not pitting Curtis Brown vs. Devon House. I think they're both talented but raw players. Lol, and no, I don't like Curtis Brown because he went to Texas. What's funny is I went to San Jose State (and live on the West Coast), which belongs to the same conference as New Mexico State, so I'm very familiar with House. I can tell you with surety that the competition level in the WAC is pretty autrocious; House was a great athlete; a good corner; playing against consistently bad competition. He's also technically raw and I don't see much difference between he and Brown in that respect.

I like Brown's overall athleticism over House's. House is a bit narrow and high in the hips IMO. I don't think Brown is a Day 1 starter, but a player with a lot of upside. That's no detriment to House, but I'm just giving you my thoughts comparing the two since you asked.

I have watched House more then I have Brown. I don't love House as much as many do.

I think you missed the part where I said I have the college football package on direct tv. You can watch almost every game you want. I DVR all games that have players that I am interested in watching and yes I did watch New Mexico St. games.

Yes the competition level is bad in the WAC but that doesn't mean House is a bad player. Several players come from bad conferences or bad schools. Dominque Rogers Cromartie went to TSU and was a 1st round pick. TSU is in a bad conference and is a bad football school.

but how much do you like Brown? House I think from what I have seen of him fits Ryans defense better. House is a better press man and man cover CB than Brown. I like them both but I would just take House before I would take Brown.

Just something about Texas CBs that always look more like a FS to me.
Huff, Griffen, Aaron Ross hasn't been great and would probably be a better FS in the right scheme. Aaron Williams may be the best FS in this draft.

My bad.

I'm not saying poor conference = poor player

The WAC puts out a few good players every year. Even my football-poor school SJSU has put out Dwight Lowery, James Jones, Rashied Davis and YouTube sensation Jarron Gilbert.

I just think all players from the WAC in general principal should be scrutinized closely because of the level of competition.

Having said that, I think House is a good prospect and Top 8-10 at the position, but I do think he's a bit raw. IMO, he could go as high as the 2nd or at worst early 4th.

Texas does make a practice of playing DBs at Safety and moving them to Corner many times. It's not a stretch to look at a Texas CB prospect and see Safety. They produce good players at both positions but I think Brown could probably play either position at the next level in time.

I do like Brown. He's a fundamentally sound player. He does need to get stronger but that will come in time. The thing about him is that he is a very willing tackler. Both he and House are good athletes but if you watch House, your going to see a guy who always looks like he's coming up to make a tackle but he rarely makes it. He doesn't really fight through blocks to try and make tackles in my opinion. It doesn't look as if he's a very willing run support guy. Brown on the other hand, he does try to fight through a block and he will try to make a tackle for you. He needs to get stronger but I'd rather have the guy who is willing to mix it up as opposed to a guy who is always overly concerned with considering with making a business decision. JMO
