Father of the year?

An Indiana father is facing serious charges after launching a brutal attack on his daughter's assistant middle school basketball coach for the coach's implementation of an incredibly simple and traditional practice: He made her run laps in the gym.

Incredibly, those who accompanied Miller to his arraignment defended his actions to a WSBT reporter on site.
"If the coach is [expletive] with your kid, what are you to do?" Wynter Goodwin told the station. "You can't talk to him."

I'm lucky, growing up playing sports football, baseball and track. My folks attended every game I played but never got involved or interfered. That was my domain and they let me play and enjoy it. My dad always had 1 rule whatever you start you finish. That was never a problem I enjoyed every bit of it.

Well it sounds like this guy over reacted in a big way. Is there more to this then simply asking her to run laps? Was she in some sort of shape, I don't mean bad shape but more medically like astma or something, and the coach simply ignored the fact that she wasn't able to do it?

I cant understand a father over reacting this badly to simply running laps.

I will say though the comment about not being able to talk to them, that's true. Often times, at least around here, if you even start to walk up to have a discussion with a coach the other coaches, or the school administrators, will block you and tell you that you're not allowed to speak to the coach.

So that doesn't surprise me, in the least, if they're unable to even have a discussion with a coach because it appears, at least from my experience around here, that coaches think they're above reproach and that they are unable to be questioned.

I hear ya but if she has some kind of medical issue, why is she on the basketball team to begin with?

Unless he made her do it naked, I don't see why a father would knock a coach out.

Well if it's something like asthma (Am I spelling that wrong possibly?) or possibly some knee pain or something then that could lead to her not being able to run as much as they'd normally like.

I know for me personally my daughter has a slightly bad knee. It doesn't effect her most of the time but after a particularly long day, or hard day, of practice or something then her knee can really give her some trouble and she's not able to finish up quite as strong as she'd like.

Now I'm lucky in that the coaches know she has this knee issue and they've seen her play right through it 99.9% of the time so when she says that it's hurting too much to go on they know that she isn't faking.

But if they reacted in a different way, and tried to force her to run, then yeah I could absolutely see reacting like this dad did. I would for sure in a situation like that but I definately don't get reacting this way with the information I've seen thus far.

I know three people who use to coach kids in various sports, absolutely loved it, but now don't for one reason.

The crap they had to put up with from parents.
