I listen to a number of Podcasts but one I like to listen to often is the Fantasy Footballers Podcast.

In the last episode I heard they were talking about Kyler Murray and his rushing and one thing that jumped out is the host said, and I'm paraphrasing here, but if you're not going to use Murray's rushing, he isn't a number one pick.
They started talking about how they will run him late in games, usually in an effort to come back and win but it's normally a forgone conclusion. They equated this to having a bazooka but trying to blow up your target by throwing rocks at it first. JUST USE THE WEAPON AND WIN.

This got me thinking about Dak and his rushing. While I think Dak is a better passer than Kyler, I still think the part of his game that made him elite was his rushing ability. That pretty much went away with the injury.

I WAS 10000% OF THE THOUGHT THAT YOU CAN'T RUN HIM ANYMORE after the injury. He can stand in the pocket and throw and get a serious injury all the same and rushing is what takes him from a top 6-12 QB to a top 3-5 QB.

So, when Dak comes back and is 100% healthy, I hope we use the bazooka and let him run more.

I hope the Eagles quarterback runs. With the new concussion protocol. He might not even finish the game. Who cares if you have a running quarterback .

Dak was never the runner some people assumed he was. He was effective because he picked his openings and ran hard, but he ran a 4.79 at the Combine, which is nothing special at all. Murray has an unoffical 4.38 time (he didn't run at the Combine). Dak's not quick and elusive like Murray either. Very different players

Running some designed QB runs, RPOs, and draws/sneaks should occur 3-5 times a game just to give the D something to think about.

He should also scramble on occasion and slide down as most defenses won’t play him with a spy so he is an unaccounted for runner.

They have been playing him with gloves, and while he is not the runner Murray, Jackson, or Hurts are, he is still a mobile QB that can bring value with his legs

The run was always a big part of his game.

There are people within the organization that think he is a prolific passer and don’t want him to run as much.

It’s a problem. Sorry.

I do think it’s fair to ask with what cooper rush has provided are the cowboys a little more willing to risk injury with dak and run him more?

I guess you missed my point.

It wasn't to compare Dak to Kyler, it was to say that running is something that increased Dak's skill as a QB. I don't so much care that he ran a 4.79. I'm not saying to be a prolific runner... I'm saying he did it effectively, until the injury. I don't want Dak hurt but running makes him more dangerous as a player.

With all due respect I stopped reading when you said that Dak was “Elite”…….but the Bazooka analogy was pretty sweet.

1000% this ^^^^
He was very effective running early in his career.
He needs to get back to what worked.

But Murray was the example you used to make the point, so I don't think it's unfair to point out Murray is a dynamic runner used much more proactively as a runner than Dak, so that's a different situation.

Nevertheless, I do agree that running is a benefit to Dak when the opposing pass rush is a problem and with an occasional, called run as well that catches defenses off guard. I thought we might see a little more this year with the foot injury another season in the past, but alas, he's been sidelined too much to know.
