I am not saying that a no-trade clause is meaningless, but it’s not really the over-riding factor in this situation. The biggest impediment to a trade is the acceleration of the pro-rated signing bonus which occurs when a trade is made.

The no-trade clause does give Dak the ability to kill a trade to a specific team, but Dak would have to weigh the pros and cons of exercising his rights in that regard.

For instance, let’s say that the Cowboys were to draft a QB and bench Dak in the upcoming season. This would really negatively impact Dak’s career.

Worst case scenario for the Cowboys is probably riding out Dak’s contract and receiving a comp pick when he leaves. But that’s a lot of cap dollars tied up in a player you may not be invested in.

Right now, as bad as some people are hating on Dak (and I am one of them) Dak would likely garner at least a first round pick in a trade. He might even net you another first round pick depending on what teams are interested.

As a side note, if I was making the decisions for the Cowboys I would not cut off my nose to spite my face and make a knee jerk reaction on Dak, but I can tell you, I would 100 percent have legitimate completion with Dak for the position.

I would be scouring the draft class very carefully. There is always QB talent to be had in the draft.
