Watching this weeks game and many games this season has finally lead me to this. I was reading through this forum and noticed the top thread asking if I think Dak should be our starting QB. It's almost an impossible poll to answer because the answers is not simple at all. So I decided to dig way too deep into out of pure boredom. Why it is that some weeks the answer to that question is undoubtedly yes and other weeks I honestly question if Cooper Rush could of given us a better chance. So here is what I've come up with.
Here are his numbers in losses going back to the beginning of last year: ( 7 games )
Dak Prescott in 7 Losses:
140/243
57% Completion
1391 Passing yards
198 / Game
10 TD's (1.42 Tds Per game)
12 Int (1.71 Ints Per game) <--this number is very bad
14 Sacks
Not very good. With Dak when we lose a HUGE majority is because of Dak's play. Now like most I thought - well in most cases in losses the QB's probably didn't play as well, so I went to some other guys in the league. Here is Mahomes numbers in his last 7 losses:
Patrick Mahomes in 7 Losses:
158/253
62% Completion
1824 Passing Yards
260 / Game
11 TD (1.57 Tds Per game)
6 Int (.85 Ints Per game)
13 Sacks
Not Pat Mahomes like numbers but certainly not as bad as Prescott...Comparing Dak to the best QB in the league isn't quite fair either, so I went with someone that is always very close to him on QB rankings...Kirk Cousins
Kirk Cousins in 7 Losses:
205/286
71% Completion
2262 Passing Yards
323 / Game
16 TDs (2.28 Tds per game)
5 Ints (.71 Int Per Game )
15 Sacks
Actually very good numbers. When the Vikings lose games it's definitely not all Cousins fault.
The straight numbers don't lie, Dak plays very bad in losses. Now to give Dak his credit, in wins he plays very well:
Dak Prescott in 14 Wins:
326/442
73% completion
3617 Passing Yards
258 / Game
28 TD (2 Tds per game )
10 INT (.71 Int Per game )
25 Sacks
Very good numbers...which lead me to one more thing that I believe is crucial for Dak to play good and the Cowboys to win games..Not falling behind in games. Here are Dak's numbers in drives when the Cowboys are LOSING in the last 21 games
Dak Prescott When Trailing In Last 2 Seasons
169/262
64% completion
1784 Passing Yards
12 Tds
10 Ints
15 Sacks
The one big take away from that I notice is in the last 2 seasons Dak has 23 interceptions and 10 of those (43%) come when we are losing the game.
Concluson: I actually think this proves both the Dak haters and Dak homers points right. Dak, when he is playing good is very good. It also proves that when Dak plays bad..it's almost too much to overcome. This information doesn't mean much because either you love Dak or hate him so I understand it's more of a rambling post about stats but to me interesting none the less.
