Dak Prescott - Cap Ramifications from Injury

I remember earlier this year reading that if teams have insurance on a player who is injured and misses significant time, under the CBA the insurance is basically counted as a refund for cap purposes and the team gets that cap space back.

I have to imagine (hope?) that with the size of his contract the team has insurance on Dak. If that's the case I wonder if and what amount of cap relief we receive if Dak misses the rest of the year?

Next year would be better, just saying 87 million next year.
Well if they don't spend it this year it would carry over to next year like the rest of the cap money we didn't spend, or so I would believe.

That said, who knows if we insured it in the first place. Would think so. Edit: read below...

Here is an article that says we insured $60 million of CeeDee's guaranteed money. No mention of Dak's insurance amount, though it mentions his new contract and says the only QB signed this offseason without insurance was Geoff. But it does a decent job of explaining. It depends on what and how much of a guarantee we put on Dak's contract (that being said, if we insured almost half of CeeDee's contract I am sure we did so for Dak). Interestingly enough I didn't know this was a thing, so thank you for posting that haha.

I POSTED something like this last week!!! Someone brought this insurance policy thing up, now it's being brought to light. I hope we took out insurance on him, give us more money to utilize, maybe we can beg henry to come to us after the season

Huh.

Never heard about this. Certainly changes cap calculations.

The Dak Hole just got a little smaller.

Looks like if I would have re-read my own article it literally includes that we took one out on Dak. Should be some level of relief for his 47M hit this year.
