If we call foraging for garbage all season while the opposition is waiting locked and loaded then we are edging closer to loser immortality throughout the entire league.

The Cowboys total CAP spend on DTs in 2024 is less than what a good DT makes in the NFL and half what a top DT tackle makes in the NFL. The Cowboys CAP allocation for DT is just $9.6 million.

Osa is $3.38 million. Mazi is $3.016 million. Joseph is $2.205 million, Watkins is $875k. Justin Rogers is $132k, but his full year salary is $795k.

Golston is another $1.564 million.

The DEs minus DLaw and Sam Williams are even cheaper at about $4.4 million for 4 players including Golston. Micah is $5.4 million.

To be fair Parsons, Osa, Mazi, Rogers, Golston, and Kneeland are all on rookie contracts.

But I think the point is still valid. The Cowboys have not invested much money in the DL, with the exception of Lawrence at $20.445 million, but he is out for the year and probably gone after this season.

This is a ridiculously low investment in the DL and it has to change if teh Cowboys want to win a Super Bowl. They need at least 1 impact interior defensive linemen, and 1 real impact DE if they want to be a good team.

Nothing wrong with what you've said, but that still doesn't answer the question moving forward.
The first question, is, how do we invest in the D-Line...for instance Osa's the best 3-tech in FA, that'll mean a marked overpay for a player we're already paying (for peanuts).
This idea that some of the fanbase has about creating $100m CAP is ridiculous when we have so many holes.
Jerry needs to own this mess and rebuild, we are far behind on so many levels.....throwing money just to be relevant is typical Jerry.

I agree, clearing $100 million is possible but not what some fans think. This team is not close enough at this point to begin mortgaging the future. They need too much. My point was only that they cannot ignore some positions, or treat them like they are not important in order to shove all their money at a handful of players. The reason Dallas cannot stop the run is that they have no real talent on the DL. Osa is good but not great. The rest of the DL is garbage. Even with Lawrence, who is $20 million, the DL is sub-par. IMO, Lawrence is overpaid too, but goes to the point that they throw all their money at a few players they expect to carry the rest of the team.

I believe the Cowboys are going to let Osa leave after this season. Watkins, and Joseph are probably gone too. I have no idea who is playing DT for Dallas in 2025, other than Mazi. Isuspect they will sign more guys like Watkins and Joseph for minimal CAP impact.

Dallas needs a multi-year plan to rebuild and rebalance their CAP expenses. It has to start with replacing Dak. I would try to force a trade and take the CAP hit in 2025, but I know Dallas will not do that. But if they get him off the books in 2025 and start with a clean slate in 2026, then they can begin to retool the DL. And possibly keep plays like Daron Bland on the roster.

They try to keep the core players.

most of the other players are league minimum or rookie contracts.

2026 looks better. Depending on the Dak situation.

lots of void money on the 2025 cap.

Jerry believes the NFL is a passing league. There is no reason to stop the run.

Yes, if we are injury free and have some luck in the draft then we could lose a wildcard game next season.
