I think that was from the fireworks they set off just moments before.

Yes, the smoke was from fireworks. At exactly 7:00 they had a 3-5 minute firework show. Them it went silent for about 2 minutes while the smoke cleared, then 1 more set of fireworks went off. Then about 10 seconds later they implosion started.
