What are your thoughts about what I would do, if I had the power.

Let Pollard, Schultz, McGovern, CRush, Noah Brown, ABarr, and ABrown go to other teams via FA. Like them, but they are progress stoppers at this point.

Rework Dak (don't have a choice really), Martin, and TSmith contract.

Resign - Hankins, DWilson, Fowler, CWatkins, Steele, McQuaid, and Peters. --- none of these should be too much.

Sign -- either ABillings or Ashawn Robinson ---- I really want Payne, but $$$$$. Cut NGallimore

Sign LVE if he will take a lower contract, and keep JLewis for now.

Then DRAFT:- Taken from FanSpeak......
1) Quentin Johnston falls so Dallas takes him. He will be the perfect secondary WR to CD and will actually usually play the X role in the new WCO. He has the size and ability to always keep them doubling him, freeing up CD more often.
2) Devon Achane -- love the speed. My RB list goes Robinson, Gibbs, Achane, Charbonnet and Achane was the one still available in the 2nd.
3) Noah Sewell -- LB Oregon. Going to be starting MLB at times. My list was NSmith, DSanders, TSimpson, ACarter, NSewell, JCampbell......but only he was there in the 3rd.
4) Joe Tippmann - C Wisconsin -- just can't stay away from those Wisconsin linemen, and he can play C or G.
5a) Clayton Tune -- QB Houston -- may not be a starter for a few years, but he has that Romo vibe that might be something in a few.
5b) Emil Ekiyor Jr -- G Alabama -- need more depth at IOL
5c) Anorei Iosivas -- WR Princeton -- size and speed
6) Deuce Vaughn -- RB KState ----- so small he fell this far, but part time RB, and he can do a little returning as well. RB, Slot, Returner.....just get him the ball some
7) Hunter Luepke -- FB North Dakota State -- MM liked to have a FB in GB, and since I don't trust the three HB's to block......he has a knack for it.

After draft picking up two RB, Zeke is a post June 1 cut, and all the $$$ needed to sign the draft picks is available.

So roster starting next year looks like:
QB: Dak, Grier, Tune
RB: Davis, Achane, Vaughn with Luepke as FB and 3rd down stay in to block for Dak - catch flats or slip seem.
TE: Ferguson, Hendershot, McKeon
T: Smith, Smith, Peters, Ball, Waletzke, ATaylor, Steele on IR
IOL: Martin, Biadasz, Alarcon (they have kept him around), Farinok, Tippman, Ekiyor Jr, Hoffman and Lindstrom ---- I think they got three positions covered
WR: CD, QJohnston, MGallup, Simi Fehoko, Andrea Iosivas, Jalen Tolbert, Turpin ---- they should have this one covered as well.

DE: Lawrence, Armstrong, SWilliams, DFowler
DT: Osa, Hankins, ABillings, Bohanna
DL: CGholston, CWatkins (they can play anywhere needed on the line)

LB: MParsons, NSewell, DClark, DHarper, Jefferson (maybe LVE depends)
LEO: Kearse, JCox (Kearse starts, but Cox plays when those teams want to run strong side)

Safety: DWilson, Hooker, Mukuamu, MBell
CB: Diggs, Bland, NWright (getting to make or break time), Joseph (hoping it turns on), JLewis (who can be cut for the 5M if/when needed), Taylor-Stewart

K, P, DS --- check

I really would have liked another CB, but since DQ's defense really plays/needs more safeties than CB, having the first 5 seems like enough.

I think for a WCO you have it covered. You could run/pass out of 21 personnel and be hard to stop. 11 and 12 personnel covered. Even 10.
Letting Simi or Iosivas run influence routes, with Johnston running the under X and CD running the over Y --- ouch for DC.

For a D, you can adjust to just about anything, and you have speed. MParsons can move anywhere with NSewell or Clark especially if SWilliams and DFowler can cover a TE or RB as needed. Watkins/Gholston can play anywhere you need them on passing downs, with Hankins\Billings stopping up the middle, and Osa\Bohanna getting all the single blocks. I can see where DQ would be able to make this one salty D.

Nice ability to match up with most other teams and adjust to their strength with your strength.......at least IMO.

What would you think if the draft and team ended up like this next year?

I mean...I can see the argument to let Pollard go, but he's not a progress stopper. Neither are McGovern, Rush or NBrown who had increased roles due to injuries. ABrown isn't because we got significantly worse when we went out. I guess Barr is, but admittedly I don't see him coming back for that reason.

Id rather pay a little and keep Rush. Grier is absolutely awful.

I like that you’re thinking through your GM philosophy. Letting go of two running backs and drafting two small running bags worries me. Waiting until the fifth round for a guard that’s needed isn’t something I would chance. Quinton seems like a finesse receiver I need a alpha even though he’s the second receiver. These are just thougts I am no GM

Appreciate the work, but not a fan. Think the team didn't improve, but took a step back.
What position(s) do you think they took a step back?

New offense, so I suspect it takes a step back early, regardless due to it being a new offense.
RB maybe? Pollard was good but he is a year older, coming off an injury (see Gallup), and starting a new offense. Two faster more elusive backs in a WCO should be helpful, IMO. WCO usually doesn't use a bell cow back, but needs backs who are faster, can catch, and elusive. At least that is what was preached to me.
WR -- you have a big guy to run the unders that get pushed to the LB's and allow CD to run free...........I think this would be an improvement from last year.
OL -- so losing McGovern is what makes them take a step back? Alarcon is bigger, and I drafted two IOL. The rest of the starters are back along with injured players. 7-OT 2 which play G as well. 8- IOL.
TE -- maybe Schultz is why they don't improve, but if the young guys actually block, I think they will be better.
QB -- maybe not keeping Rush? I don't like Grier, but he is still under contract, and Dallas seems adverse to actually getting a QB to push their perceived starter. If they aren't as good because Dak can't play in a WCO, then that has nothing to do with who I picked and manipulated the team.........that is on the contract guy and the coaches.

So it must be the defense that makes them take a step back?

DE -- same players (Tank, Armstrong, SWilliams, DFowler)
DL -- better IDL, at least IMO. (Osa, Bohanna, Hankins, ABillings, CWatkins, Gholston)
LB -- MParsons plus a speed guy who is a year older in DClark to play Will when Parsons plays Mike or DE. NSewell to play MLB when Parsons is DE or Will. Sewell with pass rush ability. I think they got better here. They have the ability to adapt very well to the run and the pass.
Leo -- Kearse with still the ability to swap with DWilson as needed. I admit moving JCox to this position as well, but because some teams like to run strong and Kearse took a beating last year when they did. I think JCox might be able to give the position some size, but still cover as needed.

Safety -- no downgrade as still with same personnel and Mukuama was coming on well last year and could play some CB and S in zone anyway.
CB --- lost ABrown, but Dallas D usually used 3 safety (two safety plus one acting as a Leo), and two CB's. JLewis still available for the slot if KJoseph or NWright can't get better. Diggs and Bland starting. I just don't see the big drop off here.

Dallas D has been put together to be able to adjust to just about anything. DQuinn brings pressure, but utilizes players to get mismatches.

Back to basics, Defense has to guard 5 guys plus the QB. Dallas has 4DL, Parsons, Sewell to rush on pass plays. 2CB's for the WR's, a Leo for the TE, and two safeties for RB\"other", or they have LB's in Clark\Parsons who have enough speed to spy Hurts.

With this said...........what players/positions do you think they take a step back? From my perspective, IF, they are going to go to a more WCO, then Dak might be the weak link, but they should improve.

If you think they were scared to play Davis because of his pass blocking, you think they'll draft Achane?

Never..
I seriously doubt Dallas would do anything I think they should do.

I did draft a FB though to stay in and block or slip to flats since I am not sure the RB's could do it. Could also use a TE for that.

Add more screens, and use more RB's with speed on hot routes, and you will slow down the blitz. Especially if they are bringing inside LB blitzes and you can get the ball quick to the big WR who can hopefully break a tackle.

RB -- Zeke (done) and Pollard (coming off injury, and new offense) replaced by Achane (legit 4.2 sprinter speed), DVaughn (shifty and elusive) and Davis. And a FB Luekpe for blocking.
CB -- Anthony Brown (30+ year old coming off an injury) replaced by two guys in their 2-3 years in Wright, Joseph..... and you still have JLewis if needed because none will start
OL -- McGovern -- with at least 6 others and 2 tackles to play that one position, including 2 draft picks.
TE -- Schultz..................in a WCO the TE needs to block first, and Ferguson, Hendershot, McKeon do a better job of that.

I guess I will agree to disagree.

Thank you very much though for your thoughts, I do appreciate it.

-I don't think Achane can be a bell cow type, which I think they are seeking. Like the FB
-Neither of our backup corners shown anything when we needed them to start, #2 corner was a major concern down the stretch. Bland might be better inside.
-Who is starting at LG? Farnoik or a 5th rd pick? That is a downgrade over McGovern who is serviceable
-They may go with the TE's you listed, but why not look for a better option then Shultz. Think Ferguson is a similar player, with better blocking skills.

RB -- wasn't looking for a Bell Cow. Was specifically looking for west coast offense backs that are quicker and faster to spread out the field, one that utilizes all three backs, and the FB forcing DC to have more worries due to each of their talents.
CB -- while I may be agreeing with you a bit... NWright and Mukuamu both showed flashes last year of being able to play zone. Joseph shows speed, but I admit we need to see it turn on for him. Bland might be better inside, but with experience might be better outside as well, since he was really put inside most of the year. JLewis seems to be fine inside. While the backups aren't all-pro they weren't continual toast all the time either.
LG -- starter Alarcon who they keep around and he is huge. Maybe Farinok if he can stay healthy. Maybe 4th rounder Tippmann or 5th Ekiyor. Maybe Hoffman or Lindstrom who have been through their red shirt years. Or maybe you move Tyler back inside and start Peters at LT. Maybe Tyrone moves back to LT, and Tyler moves inside, and Ball, or Waletzko start at RT. Maybe Steele comes back sooner than expected. If none of these guys can fill the role of LG........Then the coaching SUX. These guys need experience, and aren't getting any more without playing. While McGovern is serviceable, he isn't all-pro and one of these other guys should be serviceable as well.
TE - WCO usually utilizes TE who can block and catch -- think Dwight Clark. Dallas has three that can play now. If they add a FB, that will be full. Could they use a dynamic pass catching TE that ends up being your #2 or #3 receiver, but has the ability to block a little, sure, but it isn't needed. Dallas has all they need without Schultz, IF, the QB can make the quick, accurate, strong throws that a WCO calls for.

Maybe my understanding of how MM runs his WCO is skewed from what I was taught about the WCO, and many have varied the WCO based upon the talents of the team.
Walsh used it because his talent was WR Jerry Rice, and he had no real OL talent, so he got him the ball quick and used the short horizontal passing game like a running game. Single him and if he broke one tackle, he was gone.
D countered by moving out the LB's and hitting the X under hard as he came across, not allowing teams to utilize small WR in the slot. Spreading out the D allowed for quicker and faster backs to have more room inside counters/traps with LB wider.

Dallas may be looking bell cow. History has several teams using one with the WCO. I think the thing that matters is getting full use of the talents your team has, and putting the players in position to succeed.
Shifty backs, a big X WR to run the under routes - while using influence routes (speed) and over routes with a great RAC WR are pretty much staples of a really good WCO.

Walsh ran lots of Watters RB, Rathman FB, Clark TE, Rice XWR, and Talor YWR., in SF and was very hard to stop.

-Keep in mind, MM said to Dak he is only going to change 20-30% of the offense. They brought in Schott who is an Air Coryell OC. Think we are going to see more of a mixture of both schemes. Schott/Solari came from a run 1st Seattle offense. MM did have Duece McAllister years ago in NO as the OC.

-They are not going into next season needing to rely on either Joseph or Wright. Corner is a huge need.

-If they want to run the football better, you want to start a lesser player at LG?

You may be very correct with the MM stuff and 20-30%, and yes Schott has done vertical Air Coryell. So I guess it depends on the coaching once again, getting the most out of the talent they end up with.

Joseph and Wright are backups so not a huge need, but yes I get it. It is a need and possible upgrade position. Diggs, Bland, JLewis would start, and it will surprise me if they see it any other way.

And no I don't see Tyler Smith as a less to McGovern....and I don't think Farinok or Alarcon would be either. I have no idea about Tippman and Ekiyor till they get here (think Steele). Did their red shirt year help Lindstrum or Hoffman?
Remember Larry Allen and Eric Williams were 2nd and 3rd rounds respectively. Why do people think we need another 1st rounder on the line?

In my opinion the FO is stuck on the bellcow approach. McCarthy in Greenbay seemed to always cycle through running backs, and not really leaning on a ground and pound approach.

I think here, there will be more of an effort to run it more, compared to GB, but I don't think we need a bellcow for RB. Just a handful of competent backs. Ideally, IMO have that quick, shifty guy and then a more of a powerback for the 4th quarter/short yardage and then the 3rd back be a ST guy who is a jack of all trades running wise.

We need a #2 outside starting corner and another starter either at Guard or Tackle. If they decide to keep Tyron, that would lesson the need, but can he hold up for an entire season? Think we are going to see another high-level guard drafted. CB, OL, WR, TE, RB are all in play as our top needs, could increase if Lve/Wilson aren't resigned.
