Down 10 but still 10 mins left the Lions all but gave up when Buffalo returned the kick to the Detroit five . With the new rules where you have to announce you’re going for the onside kick it’s got very little success rate . Bizarre call .

Couple the 48 42 loss with the injuries that came out of the Lions and the balance of power leaves Detroit and it looks like a Philly or Vikings # 1 seed playoff . Bad day at the office in Detroit .

He's an aggressive coach.
Some times it works, other times it doesn't.

His defense couldn't match the Bills offense. At that point, they've given up 38 points, so IMO not like his defense was shutting down the Bills.
It was a good onside kick, just better positioning by Hollins.

What I don't like is Campbell saying he regrets it. Own up to it. Down by two scores, you know the Bills will eat clock. Every 1st down is 2 minutes off the clock.

In the previous rules where you can spring an on side kick on someone sure go for it but when you have to announce it no I don’t see much room for success and now I’ve seen two long returns on onside kicks by the receiving team , the Cowboys brought one back for a TD the NFL is legislating that strategy out of the game .

Just read that Montgomery is now out for the year with MCL. McNeil has an ACL. And of course Hutchinson.

Top players but still winning. Impressive

I agree with that. It's a low percentage play now. IMO it needs a refresh, but not something that makes the "onside" a 50-50 play.

@Aven8 , the Lions are an all IR team right now. Impressive they are 12-2. See how that goes in the playoffs.

Buffalo blew them out . Score didn’t indicate the level of the beating . I think the NFC will either go through Philly or Minn for the NFCCG . Detroit might be in that game as the road team like they were against the 49ers but came up short .

The Montgomery injury points out the need for Dallas to draft a back and resign Dowdle . Two back attack allows you to play smash mouth football no matter who’s in the game .

The Lions have suffered several defensive injuries and were struggling to stop Buffalo's offense, so I can understand why he attempted to eliminate one of Buffalo's offensive possessions.

My guess is the Lions were thinking they either get the ball or they give the ball to the other team with a short field (which means less clock usage on that drive) and hope their defensive guys can hold them a field goal.

It's not really a hard decision to make given all of those parameters.

With the Cowboys all but eliminated it wouldn’t be bad to see 0-4 in SB Buffalo finally win one and how about Amari Cooper another ring possibility Cowboy like DWare in Denver .

Has there ever been a season like this for injury on one side of the ball?

Here are the Lions defensive players who have been lost to injury, starting in training camp. ***All*** these guys had a big role on the team, or were projected to before the season.

Aidan Hutchinson (DE)
Marcus Davenport (DE)
John Cominsky (DE)
Levi Onwuzurike (DE)
Joshua Paschal (DE)
DJ Reader (DT)
Levi Onwuzurike (DT)
Alex Anzalone (LB)
Derrick Barnes (LB)
Jalen Reeves-Maybin (LB)
Malcolm Rodriguez (LB)
Trevor Nowaske (LB)
Ifeatu Melifonwu (CB)

Then during the Bills game they also lost for the season key starters corner Carlton Davis and stud DT, Alim McNeill

15 Key defensive players GONE right now!

With all these injuries with the Giants offering tryouts to the Fordham Rams football QB’s probably any day now you have a 17 game schedule threatening to go to 18 , the greed of the owners .

But before this yr you could spring an onside without telling the stadium
That really wasn't my point. The new kickoff rules tell everyone when it is an onsides kick. You don't have to announce it. You line up to kick onsides, or line up to kickoff. I wish they would go back to the normal kickoff from the 30.
