But fast forward 11 days to Thursday, and the hypothetical question from father to son actually played out as the Cowboys welcomed their newest rookies to the team for the start of a two-day minicamp on Friday.
"We actually rode up here together today," Deuce Vaughn said of his dad. "He dropped me off at the hotel. As I get acclimated to stuff, he'll be up here to help me with whatever I need. It's pretty cool."

With a name like "Deuce," he obviously would've preferred to wear his college jersey number of 22 or even No. 2, which is issued to Jourdan Lewis. Vaughn certainly understands why Emmitt Smith's number won't be given out to anyone.
"When you've got the all-time leading rusher right here in this building, yeah, there's no say in that," said Vaughn, who will wear No . 42 this weekend. "If there's a chance to change, I might do that. But right now, it's pretty cool. Jackie Robinson … Forty-deuce. I'm just happy to have (a number) and I'm ready to work."

Not to rain on the parade but the eagles drafted Donnel Pumphrey who had a crazy college run but he was so small that that he was easily put down at first contact. I had high hopes at the time but he couldn't break a pinky tackle in the NFL. Granted he was a 4th round pick so not apples to apples as far as capital.invested.

If his jersey reads exactly like it's reported here, "Forty-Deuce" would be off the wall -- but I couldn't care less if he performs well. ;)

It's also listed as 42, which has been Anthony Barr's number in the past. I'm assuming he's no longer a Cowboy? I Didn't know that.

H-m-m, I also read a google query that reports all the players will be wearing 42 for whatever the reason may be in the rookie camp. Seems odd.

Funny thing is the other day he was compared to Davis and obviously MDs size advantage was pointed out. However, Deuce Vaughn was actually the physically stronger athlete coming out. I looked at some of his work out numbers and I'm not sure he goes down so easily. It'll be interesting to see if he can make up for size with strength.

I would love it if he does that. I don't know how creative he'd be allowed to be by the NFL though.
