FRISCO, Texas – Finally, it’s beginning to look a lot like an NFL Draft.

There those mocks are sprouting up all over the place. The Cowboys are in the midst of their 30 visits. The NFL is concluding plans for how AT&T Stadium will be reconfigured into a 40,000-seat draft theater. And our annual Official 2018 Dallas Cowboys Draft Preview hit my desk this afternoon and is now available to all.

My goodness, the Browns, we think, will be first on the clock in three weeks.

So far, the Cowboys have either signed, re-signed, tendered or traded for a dozen players. Most of what they have done has followed their predetermined plan:

“We had a plan,” Cowboys COO Stephen Jones said of what the Cowboys had mapped out for the start of free agency. “The plan was to get depth at the receiver positions. We needed a starting caliber offensive lineman and some depth at safety, then at linebacker.”

Sounds like every GM in the league.

We needed a starting caliber XXXXXXXXX and depth at XXXXXXXXXXX also at xxxxxxxxxxxxx.

We went about it looking at every player out there......

This is the fun time of year for the front office. The tough part is when the season ends and you have to assign blame and can a handful of coaches. But once you get the new set of scapegoats under contract, the rest of the off-season is a stress-free cake walk.

thats how we roll. in fact sometimes the only reason i think we hire coaches is to do just that. How this organization has fallen. Really really sad.

You can never go wrong with some Spags tidbits..

Spags is underrated by most. But it is the cool thing on here to hate on him, almost as much as they hate on Dez.

I still remember, may even have some boxed away, his team write up in the magazines that would come out prior to TC's.
They always had a local reporter do the write up for the teams. So most were a bit on the positive side. Can't recall what magazine it was right off hand.

My problem with Spags is a clear lack of objectivity. The Jones family could shoot up a bank, take hostages and Garrett could walk out with the cash and he'd write a story on "this is what good teams have to do." He is more homer than anyone on this board. I get that you have to tread lightly with a job like that but you can also be realistic without stepping on toes. There is a reason why he was ripped on the Ticket and someone like David Moore lauded.

Spags had to leave the ticket, as they changed flagship station form the ticket the the fan. The Ticket has been butt hurt ever since.
Spags has always been on the bright side when it comes to the team, even when he was with the Dallas morning news, and there is nothing wrong with that.
He has written and said some critical things. But for what ever reason he looked down upon by most because people think it is cool, and many have to follow the posters that bark the loudest, or in this case whine.

I find reading spags is at times refreshing after reading 90% of the negative posts on here. :muttley:
Puts a different perspective on things.
Read spags, read JTT or Gosselin, or before Gallowaste retired. Give me spas everytime.

Agreed. Spags is clearly a mouth piece for the Owner. Everything he says should be taken with a grain of salt.

Mick is the ultimate 'company man' which is why I take anything coming from him in that way.

I don’t take the Ticket as being butt hurt. In fact the opposite. They are fine Mick gone. Believe me. I also don’t think anyone here calls him a homer because it’s the “cool thing to do.” I’ve never liked the guy. Some people want news without slant and Mick has a whole lot of slant. Guys like Moore can be nice, funny, give a report and be critical but also leaves it to the listener/reader to make their own opinion. That’s all I want. Agreeing with every move involve no critical analysis. But again, this is the same thing you read here all the time...people complain. Easy to do when you were a top franchise and haven’t won anything of substance in 2 decades.

Your post made me realize I haven't listened to the ticket since Spag's left, that and I only listened Norm's show, but that changed around that time as well. I don't agree with everything Spag's has to say, but I like hearing his point of view, I think a lot of times he explains what the front office was thinking right or wrong...I like that. I don't always agree, and I've heard him be critical of the front office plenty of times.

I listened to The ticket all the time while at work. Then they became the flagship station. I listened to Norm mostly, because he was all sports, not the BS the users threw out there day in and day out. Yes it was funny at times, as it took away from the all sports all the time theme. They did have some good stuff, especially Gordo. But at times I could care less about shaving cream, or not a one could not go on vacation without some incident happening, and I did not want to hear that either. So I switched stations at times. LOL.

I do not listed as much now, even norm's show has changed. But when they became the flagship station, they seemed to try so hard not to sound like homers, they almost sounded like haters. Then when The Fan took over, seemed to me the ticket became even more hateful. Maybe it is just me. But the Fan was awful at first, so the ticket was still better.

now I think the opposite, the Fan is much better than the ticket, since the Fan changed up some of their people. However I have not listened to either since the season ended. I will since the draft is getting closer. which Norm does do a fantastic job on the draft.

I still can't get used to a Commanders fan and a Jets fans telling me about the cowboys on the Fan, but last I heard, they have became better.

I guess Troy Aikman will still do his Thursday morning bit with the mussels come football season. He is usually good to listen to. He doesn't pull any punches, and can be critical, but he is also more positive than when he announces the games.

I do miss goose gosselins draft analysis though. He was pretty accurate with his 1st round picks for all the teams.

Fellow Zoners, don't let the constant negativity from these kinds of posters to damp any optimism you have for the Cowboys. There is much to be optimistic about this team regardless of what you read here.
