Even Leighton Vander Esch didn't expect the success to come this quickly, but as soaks in Pro Bowl week, the confident, not-cocky linebacker said he knew he would eventually get here.

Its amazing how many people "always knew stuff" right after it becomes a reality.

I like the kid and hope he becomes a perennial all-star, but c'mon man.

I really don't care how he got here or if "he always knew he would". I just know we desperately needed him to, esp with the way Lee is starting to fade. . .

I don’t doubt his sincerity in saying this, but realistically a lot of young football players have felt the same and it didn’t happen.

Emmitt knew he was going to be the all time rushing leader before he went to the pros.

To make it, you need a little arrogance about you...especially when you’re overlooked.

Those other young players were wrong. LVE was right.

Right. I was just saying it’s not hard to believe he truly felt that way because it’s something I’m sure a lot of players feel. The difference with LVE is the belief became reality.

Athletes usually are like this.

You guys think he thought to himself daily that he sucked and everything was a honor and he never thought he could make the probowl?

And to add, this kid PLAYED all pro coming in an filling the hole left every year now by Lee. We all know Lee was instrumental in LVE's development, but I'm pretty sure Jaylon did also. I have NO issue with him being confident, it sure beats the hell out of..." well, we did some really good things out there, but, or yea we need to look at tape and clean some things up, or we played really good today, but....

Most athletes believe in themselves and put hefty goals in front of them. I think it is critical to have his mindset when so many out there are telling him he will not amount to much, hell fans here on draft day called him the next Bobby Carpenter.

I'm excited for him, this is just the start and I see bigger things ahead of him. I think a full off season to add upper body strength will only see him improve as a player. I don't find his comments offensive or cocky. I see a kid who has worked his butt off to get to this point with high standards he has placed on himself. I see a kid who has been grateful to those who have helped him like Sean Lee who LVE has praised many times in helping him at this level. Kid has his head on straight and a work ethic that will only lead to greater things for him.

Emmitt Smith for one who during his rookie season set a goal of being the all time leading rusher. Irvin was not shy about his expectation and there are many others. I don't have any issue with guys setting high goals and standards. If swagger bothers you then I'm sure you would hate the 90's Cowboys

I love LVE and his swagger. While others were cringeing when he started the wolf howl (in my avatar) I was howling along.

I was asking who? about Bobby Carpenter.
