My parents were kids when that happened. My mom said when she was a little girl, she would go to bed afraid that Japanese soldiers would invade and cut her throat during the night. That event created a lot of fear. My dad was a kid as well, but his older brother was an airplane mechanic in the pacific during the war. It took a lot to defeat the Japanese military, which was a fierce, dedicated, and organized fighting force.

It took some good guessing, from what I understand.

My granfather on my mothers side wanted to join the armed forces over that attack. Due to his age he didn't get in till the war was largely over.
Fought in the Korean War in the Navy. Ended up marrying a Japanese woman while stationed in Japan in the 50's.

Always found it interesting/nice that he went from wanting to fight the japanese to marrying one.

My grandma is still around and will probably live to 200 with the atomic particles she inhaled. lol

I'm a Canadian and I have an Uncle (deceased) who joined the US Navy and fought in the pacific, he died about this time last year, he was 93.

I have no idea why the US Navy??? My family says very, very little about this kind of stuff...
