The teenage son of a Harris County deputy constable shot a burglar this afternoon who tried to break into their home, authorities said.

The boy, 15, and his sister, 12, were alone about 2:45 p.m. when someone tried to kick open the front door then soon after the back door of their home in the 2600 block of Royal Place Court, officials said.

Their father was at work at the time, said officials with the Harris County Precinct 1 Constable's Office.

When one of the suspected burglars kicked open a window, the boy grabbed a rifle and fired. Both burglars then fled, officials said.

Soon after the shooting, a man showed up at Tomball Methodist Hospital with a gunshot wound. He is being questioned by investigators. There was no information about the second suspect, who remains at large, officials said.

The children were not injured during the ordeal, officials said.

Investigators with the Harris County Sheriff's Department have launched an investigation.

Before I married my wife, she told me that the cops once said to her, "if they try to break in, make sure you shoot to kill and make sure they end up in your house to you don't become the criminal". lol...
God bless Texas.:D

Then they are pretty stupid.

The one guy is at large, and police have no idea who he is. All it would take would be for the kid to alone at his house again.

No way he comes back, he'd be better off turning himself in than going to that house again.

I don't think he would come back, but if I was in that position that would be all I would think about prolly to the point of maybe going somewhere else for a few days.

There's nothing to do. I'm bored. Let's do something.

Like what?

I don't know. What do you want to do?

Well, there's a Xbox over at the deputy's house.

For real?

Yeah, for real.

Okay. Let's go get it. Wait. Don't deputies keep guns at home?

Yeah, but he's at work and his kids are there. Like, what are they gonna do anyway? Shoot us?

You're right. Let's go!

I don't think he'll go back to that house again. But, if he is really intent on taking revenge on the kid, he can find the kid somewhere else, maybe alone and most likely unarmed.

Good for the kid, but he didn't drop the guy with a rifle? They'd have found a body inside my house or just outside in the yard. Hell, I'd have shot him right in the groin as he was crawling in the window if I was going to let him live. Send a very loud message punctuated by that man's screaming.
