I'm looking into getting a puppy soon but everyone I seem to talk to has a different opinion on removing the dew claws.

I've had dogs in the past, couple with, most without and haven't ever had any problems.

Whats the real story. I know you definitely don't want them if they are loosely attached but other than that, what are the real chances a dog with them will ever get one caught up and hurt?

A friend's dog got his dew claw hung up on something a few years back to where it was bleeding and looked as if it were about to fall off. Didn't seem to hurt the dog too much, but it bothered it some. My ex-girlfriend picked up a Husky-mix a few weeks later with them, I had them removed asap.

Personally, I just think they look weird.

I never had them removed from my dog and I wish I had. Whenever I'd wrestle with him he'd scratch the heck out of my arms and I'm talking a 120lb pitbull. :laugh2:
