A lot of people on here want Hopkins on this team but fail to realize that he's still under contract with the Cardinals. He can say what he wants, but we can't say what we want if actually interested.

Did the Cardinals even grant him permission to seek a trade? I think this is why Jane Slater especially is reporting what she's reporting when she says there's no real talks. Can't say anything or face the penalties! Please give your thoughts!!

Jane is saying there have been no talks between the cowboys and cardinals in regards to a trade

Dallas can speak freely w the Cardinals about Hopkins. That is not prohibited.

Just deep dived into D Hop.

So he currently counts 29 mill vs the Cards cap. That is a huge number and he has a base salary of 19 mill. Now, that has a built in conversion to bonus that could happen at any time the Cards wish. Problem is he only has one more year left so they would have to extend him which is clearly not what Dhop wants. he wants out, preferably to Dallas. So they are stuck.

They currently have 22 million in cap space and 11 million of that is for their draft class. So factor in about 11 mill in actual cap space probably half of which is season operating cost. So really about 5.5 million on actual space.

They could free up an additional 9 by releasing or trading Dhop.

The Cowboys know they are stuck and are waiting them out. They will have to crawl to Dallas and try and offer a trade to them or will have to cut him.

I see clearly what is going on now and I am more on board now with DHop than anyone else. Reason being, we can work with this base contract we would pick up IF we traded for him or give him a really good deal for both sides if he is cut.

If Traded, he has 19 million base this year and 14 next year. You can pay him out half or more in bonus and rest in base and he wouldn't count much against the cap at all.

The problem with your theory is that there are other teams that want DHop as well as Dallas. The good news is that he is putting it out there that he wants to be here unlike Odell.

Right...but those teams know he is getting cut or the price comes down significantly as well. This is the Amari Cooper situation that no one understood playing out once again.

The difference was there was a clear timetable for guaranteed money for Amari. Not for DHop.

The simplest explanation is usually the most correct. We live in the Golden Age of Grifting, where anyone with a Twitter account can arbitrage fake intel for social clout.

They already said they were open to trade him.
Plus Dallas said they had no contact with him or the team.
Teams don’t talk to the player. They don’t talk to their agent about that player, but if in the conversation about another FA player a hint or two is hopped then who would know lol
The conversation is with the team that owns his rights. They are the first one you have to come to terms with, then they can give you permission to talk to the player.
To me he’s could be the fall back plan if OBJ doesn’t come back to reality. But a deal would be much more likely if he said he’d be happy to play out his current deal or open to an extension. These older guys who want new deals have to understand they may have been elite players but the end of the tunnel is in sight. They aren’t getting a huge new deal
But Hopkins current deal pats him probably more than he could get as a FA today

I don’t know if there are other teams wanting him if he insist on an extension
These aging WR’s have to understand the big paydays are behind them
I don’t think OBJ is getting anything close to what he wants and DHop has two well paying years left. If he came out and said I’ll play out my existing deal the phone would be ringing

What would Dallas have to pay him? That could be a lot of money at WR after Dallas re-signs Lamb.
