I believe Blizzard is having a press conference today concerning Diablo III. (at least I believe it was schedule for Aug. 1st)

AusGamers was invited out to Blizzard's Irvine, California headquarters for an updated showing of Diablo III and a surprising reveal regarding real-money auction houses. Read on for all the details...

Out at Blizzard’s Irvine, California headquarters, AusGamers was taken through Diablo 3 in presentation form, prior to getting hands-on, where we were caught up to date on the game’s narrative, skills overhaul, Battle.net features and finally, on the team’s decision to implement one of the boldest player-empowering systems ever, with a real money auction house for items.

Complete Story

This game cannot come out fast enough for me.

Hurry up, BLIZZ!!!! I need my fix!

And down the rabbit hole we go.

I'm not buying this one, can't support that system. I have no desire to end up in the eventual position where I am required to shell out additional money in other to be competitive in a video game.

You already compete in this if you are playig any top25 MMO game out atm. Blizz is just tired of losing all of this stuff to outside farmers. Those farmers being Korea and China.

This seems crazy to me. Gold Farmers will be uncontrollable. Real players will suffer.

You're not required too. It's an auction house. I believe all items have to be obtained in the game first before they can be sold. You don't want to buy an item, don't!

Diablo is unique. It's not like say the WoW AH where you cant sell top tier items for gold. Those items are soulbound once picked up off the corpse. In Diablo, you get gobs of gear running levels. You need to be able to sell those to players. It makes it more fun, I feel.

The rarer the item the more it will cost. You may not even see them on the AH because they are so hard to find.

I get the AH idea. It's good.

I get the idea but I think it will be bad. If you can sell your drops for actual cash, gold farmers will be 60 percent of a server population or more. You won't find actual real players for anything just people wanting to farm for money. I can see being able to buy stuff for cash such as recipes and enchants for something like that, sort of like LOTRO, but selling for cash is a bad idea, IMO.

Yeah I won't buy anything like that. Heck I will not even pay to play it online. Just wait to it goes free like the last diablo did after some time.
Talk about being hard to beat the game when you really don't get any good stuff from online play.:laugh2:

I do admit that at times I would look at some of the sites that sold diablo items and wish I had some of the gear.

Although in the end I got most of what I wanted by doing the runs and just trading with other players.

If like the old system you will have those that will trade things to get other things to sell.

So there will still be trading to some degree and it is not like it will too much different than the other versions because they were doing it with them.

I agree. I doublt your normal D3 user is going to be sitting there at the AH spending 100's $$ for rare items.

If so, lettem.

I honestly have a clan I will be playing with. I hardly ever see myself playing w/ pugs.

Saying that...those here on the Zone who play D3 should start a clan. I would be intersted in playing regularly most evenings.

I don't like that you have to have a constant internet connection to play.

I have been a HUGE Diablo fan for many, many years. I spent many consecutive hours farming gear in D2, doing Baal runs, etc...

But I will not be buying Diablo 3. Not because of the auction house (I don't care either way about that). Diablo 3 just looks too much like WoW. They've taken a great game and "Wow-ified" it.

I'll stick to Age of Conan for awhile longer.

They didn't WoWify Diablo. If anything, WoW Diablo-ified MMO gaming. I mean, if you mean having the action bar instead of just having left and right mouse bindings, sure, that's more like an MMO, but I can't imagine anybody thinking that is a bad change.

As long as the spirit of the gameplay of just mass slaying monsters and getting random loot drops is retained, Diablo 3 will be awesome in my book. That's all I need out of the experience. Hell, my wife and I still play Diablo 2 once in a while. It's her favorite game of all time.

I don't have a problem with auctions, I have a problem with real money being involved.

At least in WOW, people buying things are cheaters and can be caught. They basically legalized cheating for the sake of their wallets. I can't support that.

The only way I can see people being worked up is if Blizzard was trying to sell the best items for actual cash in the game. As it is, all they're doing is giving people an easier way to do what they were already doing. People in Diablo 2 traded real life cash for items, Blizzard is just playing intermediary for them now.

If somebody wants to take advantage of it, more power to them. I won't, but I do love the built in auction system and being able to buy and sell items for in game gold on it.

I'm referring to teh cartoony looking toons with 2ft spiked shoulders pads, etc...

Not referring to the actual game play at all.

If I wanted to play a game where my toon looked like a medieval power ranger I'd just play WoW.

Eh, I don't love the graphics in Diablo 3, but this franchise has never been about the visuals. And there was plenty of stupid looking armor in D2.
