Did Cowboys Kicker Brandon Aubrey Seal Starting Job?

Throughout the entire offseason, one of the biggest questions surrounding the Dallas Cowboys has been who would be the team's new kicker.

The Cowboys parted ways with last year's kicker Brett Maher after a tough showing in last season's playoffs, and he eventually signed with the Denver Broncos months later. Dallas initially brought up Tristan Vizcaino from the practice squad, but later signed USFL star Brandon Aubrey to bring in some added competition. On Aug. 7, the Cowboys cut Vizcaino, leaving Aubrey as the only kicker on the roster.

That said, the Cowboys weren't just going to hand Aubrey the starting job on a silver platter. The 28-year-old still had to audition for the role throughout the preseason, and that audition has now come to an end after the Cowboys' 31-16 win over the Las Vegas Raiders in Saturday's preseason finale. So, did he do enough to move forward as the starter?

Against the Raiders, though, the Cowboys got their best look at Aubrey so far. He missed his first field goal wide left from 59 yards out, but made up for it by drilling another kick from the same distance later on. The former Birmingham Stallions kicker also made all four PATs to complete an impressive night.

I think he'll be good. I'm actually surprised the NFL doesn't hire more "soccer" players.

It’s Aubrey’s job right now. We’ll see if he can hang onto it the entire season.

Not for me but we like to take dumb risks so probably. Jerry likes his guys to a fault.

I'm all about that Gould life. 8/8 fgs, 5/5 xp in post season last year. Mid 80's average the past 2 years. 36/38 from 39 in the last 2 years. 89/91 on XP's the past 2 years. Just bring him in and end this mess.

Can’t kick off, who’s going to do that? Anger can’t either and he’s an All-Pro punter so we aren’t cutting him.

He also struggles from 50+ at this stage in his career.

Gould is a FA for a reason as is Crosby. If we had a guy who could KO and sub in for 50 yarders sure sign Gould.

But a guy who can’t kickoff or kick deep FG’s is way too niche to justify a roster spot. Basically guaranteeing we go for it on 4th in that part of the field.
