Did Resigning Alan Ball Cost Us A 4th Round Pick?

Correct me if I'm wrong, but based on Stephen Bowen's playing time and salary he should be worth around a 4th round pick in the compensatory draft. Possibly 5th.

But we lost only 2 qualifying free agents (stephen bowen and sam hurd) and signed 2 qualifying free agents (abram elam and kenyon coleman).

Since we lost as many as we gained, we only qualify for a 7th rounder.

So if we either didn't sign coleman or let another one of our players go to free agency (if another team signed alan ball), we could get as high as a 4th.

Is this correct?

I'm pretty sure since Ball was one of our own that doesn't count. Though it is conceivable that I'm wrong about something, as unlikely as that may be.

I mean if we let another team sign him.

I probably should have put coleman in the title, it will be confusing.

I see what you are saying. Not quite sure on that one.

I don't think ball being a former cowboy has any bearing.
