Is there a difference in the way some networks produce their signals that might make for a better picture on the viewing end? Maybe I'm not bright (actually, that is 100% true), but seems that some HD channels produce a better picture than others TNT is one that comes to mind.

Any credence to this?

Sure, some stations will compress it more than others.

I prefer 720p (FOX, ESPN) over 1080p (NBC, CBS) when it comes to making screengrabs of Dallas games.

depends on what you watching.

Some stations are airing stuff that were shot on inferior cameras or uprezzed sd etc....

most networks dont have this but some of the shows on the smaller networks do this.
