Is anyone forking over the extra 10 bucks a month for DirecTV HD?

I'm having a hard time understanding why I should pay extra for HD when I already pay for a HD DVR and HD channels. So tired of the nickel and diming DirecTV tries to pull on every opportunity.

I can't even understand how it really differs from my current HD selection.

Wait, you pay for hd channels and get hd channels...but they want you to pay more for what? More channels?

Whether it's Comcast or DirecTV, don't you always have to pay a premium if you want an HD signal?

I pay the extra $10. You pay the extra $10 to get the HD signal for the channels.

At one time, I just had a HD receiver with not very many channels. I upgraded to the HD DVR. When I got the HD DVR, the number of channels I got makes it all worth it.

Got lots of new channels.

I pay for a HD DVR and I do get HD programming but now they have some kind of $10 a month HD package, and I'm not even really sure what's included other than some broadcasts in 1080p.

If you're not going to pay for the HD service, you may as well use the standard receiver. To answer the question, I gladly fork over the extra ten bucks each month. I love their digital broadcasts.

My current problem with Directv is the inavailabilty of local channels. They have stated that my DMA (Monroe-El Dorado) will start receiving them next month. They had better because it is years past time that they finally correct that particular nonsense.

With DirecTV you pay for your regular package plus $5 per receiver (no matter what type) and you can pay $10 for HD service and $7 for DVR service. What part has you confused?

Dsih Network offers free HD but I'm not sure about their service.

Just look at it like the price with the $10 is standard, and the people who don't want/can't afford HD get ten dollars off.

I just signed up for DirecTV and they gave me free HD for life.

Call and ***** till you get it also.

What does piss me off is I have the Sports Package that gives me Fox Sports Southwest and they freaking blackout the Texas Rangers games the ****ing bums!

Because they prolly want you to buy the MLB package..

Hmm... they want me to update my DTV package so that I could breakdown the individual services. I didn't see the point since the price is the regardless of whether I bundle it or not.

If you're not an existing customer, call and you will get free HD for life:

If you are already a Directv customer like me, you're screwed.

I placed an order as a new customer the other day and received a confirmation e-mail that included the following pricing. (I ordered one HD DVR receiver and one non-HD DVR receiver).

I ordered DirecTv through AT&T and bundled it with AT&T DSL. I'm paying for DSL, but will not have a traditional landlline telephone.

Thanks for ordering DIRECTV through AT&T. Soon you'll be enjoying crystal-clear picture quality and exciting programming you can't get anywhere else. As a AT&T customer, you may be eligible for recurring monthly discounts for bundling your services.

The part where I'm currently not paying the $10 a month but I DO have HD channels.

Then it's probably like Time Warner...there's different packages. I don't have all the hd channel because I dont want to pay for them since I'd rarely watch them. Probably just some movie channels and extra sports channels. Are there HD channels listed in your guide on tv that show up but you can't access?

Then you probably have the Plus HD package, which is the Plus package with HD included for an extra $10, which means you don't need to sign up for the $10 HD addon because you already have HD in your basic package.

Guys...if you're a DTV customer, you have the option of calling them every 6 months and asking to speak with customer retention. Just call the main number, get a human on the line, and say you were speaking with customer retention and got cut-off...please transfer me.

When you have them on the phone, tell them you're a long time customer and are looking to save money on your monthly bill. Just called and got Superfan for free, $15 off my bill for the next 6 months, and free HBO and Starz for the next 6 months. Not hard...saves me a lot of money as long as I remember to call twice a year.

Superfan is for free already this year.

I called and got them to drop the Sunday Ticket from $50 a month to $20. I asked about the free HD for life and they said they're offering existing customers 24 months of free HD (but I have to wait until Sunday Ticket expires since I'm using that for the Sunday ticket Discount) And then they said within 24 months HD will be a standard part of the programming.

That was exactly what they wanted. MLB.tv is usually what I buy and it's half the price. I didn't get it this year though. Well until a few days ago. They are offering it at $45 for the rest of the year for HD.

I purchased that, then installed the MLB.tv app on my PS3 and watch it on TV.

The picture is pretty good, but not as many frames per second. It is more than acceptable though. They still want like $200 for MLB Extra Innings. $45 for MLB.tv and the free PS3 MLB.tv app is easily the best way to go.

It includes HD Theatre, Sundance and IFC among some other extras...

HD Theatre is great and Sandance and IFC is great if you like Indy movies...
