DirecTV vs Dish

I've been with DirecTV now for several years and just recently got an ad through the mail from Dish TV. I've only ordered Sunday Ticket through DTV once as I just can't justify the price, even though I hate to miss a game. Whereas, Dish offers the REDZONE channel which is kind of a good in between. Furthermore, the only channels I watch are mostly Discovery, TruTV and the sports channels, mostly NFL Network.

I've currently got a plan for $29 with DirecTV, the Select package (With some discounts). I'm finding that if I want both TruTV and NFL Network I'd have to get choice which is 63.99 a month. The promotional price that includes all of these channels with Dish is $34.99 for 12 months and then $59.99 afterwards. With the free HD for life with DVR (Hopper) as well as the ability to record 6 shows, 4 from primetime networks ABC, CBS, FOX and NBC in HD, that means I wouldn't have to worry about being barked at if something else needed to get recorded during shows like American Idol.

Anyone have any comments who have used either or both services? I'm strongly considering switching. I would call DTV first to try and let them beat the offer more than likely.

As someone who would love to have Sunday Ticket, I can't fathom not wanting it.

$199 is the price of one upper level ticket at a home game.

199.00 for every game. That's 12 bucks per game to ensure you see each game. And DTV has much better selection IMO. Also, many of the "deals" that are offered are limited to the first three months or something like that then price goes back up.

I had Dish, and it was nice having a lot of channels I liked to watch in HD, but no NFL package. So, I switched to Directv, and I get the NFL Package, but certain channel are not in HD like BBCA, and they do not have G4. So there is a give and take.

I have DTV and my Dad has Dish. To be honest, I don't really see much difference in how they work. He has two DVRs and per him, my sisters hog them both taping shows at all hours of the day.

We have DTV and I would not have it if it wasn't for Sunday Ticket. Was upsets me the most is the lagginess of the receiver. Sometimes you wait like 6-7 seconds before it responds and by then you have already pushed 20 different buttons to see if it went and it goes to crazy places. Frustrating.

If you don't use Sunday Ticket, I'd go Dish.

From what I've read about "the hopper" is that you need one for each additional tv and they charge for each one. So I still prefer the dual dvr's.

I had the same issue then they sent me a new receiver and it hasn't been a problem.

If it wasnt for Sunday Ticket I would dump it for that exact reason. I even made them give me a new receiver because I was getting fed up with hitting buttons and having to wait for 5 seconds for the receiver to respond. Than it responds and I end up going to some random channel cause I hit the button too many times. It seems like a little thing, but it really gets annoying after a while. The new receiver they sent me worked great for about 4 weeks, now it is starting to do the same thing.

With the new software update on the receiver that issue has been largely gone for me.

Six to one.....half a dozen to the other. Both have hidden costs you find out about when u order. IMO....... They get you. Coming and going. Period. Neither can offer this AND that because monetarily they cant justify lowering the cost for a slightly better product overall. Marketing driven service/product.

Direct TV has Sunday Ticket and Dish doesn't. That's really what it comes down to. When you're a hardcore football fan like me you wanna be able to watch every game not just ones in your area. I have DISH, but I'm trying to convince my parents to switch. My aunt has it and I love it.

Mine did the same thing after about 4-5 weeks. I just hit the reset button that reboots the system and it works like a charm. So about once a month I just reset the system. No biggie.

My vote would be DirecTV, for many of the same reasons listed in this thread.
