The Cowboys signed former Texas A&M running back Trey Williams off the Washington Commanders practice squad as a replacement for Joseph Randle, who was released by Dallas. Here are 10 things to know about Williams.

1. Growing up a Cowboys fan

Though he was signed off the Commanders' practice roster, Williams - who was born and raised in Houston - grew up a fan of America's Team. Williams was shopping for a suit at a mall with a Commanders teammate when he got the news from his agent. "I was losing my mind," said Williams. After receiving the call Williams rushed home, threw a few things into his bag then rushed to catch a 9:05 out of Washington D.C. He almost missed the flight due to traffic. He arrived in Dallas on Tuesday night and went through his first practice Wednesday. "I'm just so happy, man,'' Williams said. "I'm going to take advantage of it and prove to people why I'm here.''

Unlike the other Aggie running back, I like this kid. He may be able to help this team down the stretch.

Great feet, with a non-standard deceptive move repertoire.
Good burst and straight-line speed.
May not be the fastest man on the field, but uses cuts and stiff arm to elude or foil most tacklers.
Quick enough to seldom take a direct hit and easily shed.
A bit of a showboat.

Will give Lucky a run for his money.

Good move it he can help us in the return game also. Thought I saw something about his being a KO returner in college

Always root for a guy who grew up a Cowboys fan.

He backed up Ben Malena, for a little perspective. But if he gives us something in the return game, he'll have been worth it.

lol @ the PB&J story. Getting juked out of your Flintstones slippers by a 3 year old has got to be a pride killer.

If he does nothing really well other than returning kickoffs he'll have earned his star in my book. Gotta add, I like what I've read about him being a bood pass blocking back, though. That's always a big plus for any RB.

if he offers nothing or does nothing, i say celebrate him Dunbar style. Thats the type of RB we are looking for.

Dunbar pretty much delivered whenever he got an opportunity. That included preseason games, too, though I couple big plays were called back. Our resident 'realists' sort of blew that evaluation from where I'm sitting.

That said, Dunbar's strength was his route running and his acceleration. Even if Trey could match the former, he won't have the familiarity with the system for it to matter. He doesn't have the latter.

What he does appear to have is a killer jump-cut, which would be helpful in the return game. If he really can pass protect, too, that's a big plus as long as he can come up to speed fast enough to be ready when McFadden gets hurt. Because otherwise, we're going to be in trouble protecting Romo with a bunch of practice squad players with questions about their ability to pickup blitzes.

There was a bit made of the fact that he said he was tired during practice. I'm willing to bet that he didn't have to put in the work on the practice squad that he's had to put in here quickly as potentially part of the active roster.

A lot could be expected of him, so a lot's gonna be thrown at him. Dallas has shown that they won't throw guys in to the lions; they'll be eased in. I expect the same w/ Trey Williams. If he can handle punt/kick returns, that'd be good enough for this game for now

I just hope they make it clear to him taht he's not expected to be a superstar. I hope he doesn't feel the need to be a hero (though, if it's there...take it!)
