Marion Barber's thumb gave him problems

Marion Barber had four carries for 27 yards in the first quarter and then had just one carry the rest of the game.

We'll get into Jason Garrett's playcalling later in this post, but Wade Phillips said Barber's fractured thumb was giving him problems in pass protection, which is why he was not on the field much in the second half.

That makes some sense considering the Cowboys had to throw it every play on their last two series with the score 17-0. You don't want a player unable to pick up blitzers on the field.

But it didn't hurt him running the ball and the Cowboys did not do enough of that in the first half. The Cowboys ran the ball twice in the second quarter for 3 yards on four drives. In Tony Romo's seven pass attempts he was sacked twice and had an incompletion. One drive ended with Roy Williams' fumble.

With a scoreless game, I think Garrett got a little heavy on the pass there in the second quarter.

Now in the third quarter, the Cowboys ran eight plays. By the time they got the ball in the fourth quarter - 13:14 left in the game - the Packers had a 10-0 lead. The Cowboys went shotgun three straight times and it ended with Charles Woodson's sack/fumble.

Could they have run it there more? Sure. After that, however, the running game had to go out the window with a 17-0 deficit.

What? Tape it up if he's in there to block only. He damn sure wasn't called to run it. This makes ZERO sense.................

Marion Barber's thumb gave him problems?

Maybe that explains what Garrett had up his a.s.s.

In other news, Flozell had a hang nail bothering him. What a joke.

I could understand the toe but a thumb......c'mon man

Not only did the O line not pass protect but the pass blocking was horrible by all 3 backs. I have never seen barber pass protect this bad. He's considered the best at it, so something must be up with him.

The thumb is very important when you carry the ball. If it's not healthy, the chances of him fumbling are much, much higher. Just try holding a football without your thumb. It's pretty tough to hold on to when you have guys hitting you. Lol.
