The Dallas Cowboys were among about a dozen teams that attended Hampton University's ``Pro Day'' on Wednesday. Mammoth defensive lineman Kenrick Ellis was the subject oftheir attention.

Ellis is 6 feet 5 and weighed in at 333 pounds. He is remarkably nimble for a large man. Ellis' workout included a 32-inch vertical leap. At the NFL combine, he ran the 40 in 5.19 seconds.

I like him, it isn't only a NT, he can also play the 5 which is 3-4 DE. Ellis is a poor mans Haloti Ngata. He can play the NT or the 3-4 DE spot.

YYYEEEESSSSSSSSSSS!!!!!!!!!

He's supposed to go anywhere in the 2nd-3rd round, correct?

That seems to be the word going around now, I don't think we'll take him before the 3rd though, not sure if he'll last that long but here's hoping.

Anyway to get stronger in the trenches, I'm down for.

I've been hearing 3rd-early 4th.

If we can some how get and extra 3rd I would take him there.

Spot on comparison in terms of athletic ability. Heck, 80% of Ngata would be fine by me.

Wouldn't 6'5" be a little tall for a NT? I like the athleticism and he would be a consideration to replace Olshansky, but I am not sold on moving Ratliff.

Yup, early on you heard a lot about him as a NT but I've been saying for some time that I see him more as a large DE.

I don't think he's as athletic as Nagta, because Nagta has the gas to do what he does all day long and Ellis got spelled quite a bit, but he's certainly got the athletisim to play DE in a 3-4.

And like you said, he's a bit too tall, but unlike you, I am all for moving Ratliff and getting a prototypical NT in here: 6'2" 325 lbs and letting Ratliff simply rotate back to NT on passing downs.
