For the Cowboys sake, do we have to go to the player and his agent to get his current deal restructured? If the player is receiving his money, why is there a need to ask or talk to a player about redoing his deal? Please give your thoughts......

2 different kinds of restructures. The one you’re seeing Dak do every year is a signing bonus conversion. Neither the player nor the agent needs to be informed before a team does it, as it doesn’t change their money in any way. It only affects how the team communicates their salary cap to the nfl

The other kind is really a rework of the contract in which the team reduces a player’s overall compensation. This is what happened to Demarcus Lawrence last year and is trying to be done to Zeke. It may be called a restructure, but it’s very different than what Zack Martin and Dak just did. It’s basically a completely new contract negotiation to replace the old one

This is the way the Cowboys do all contracts now and have for years. I'm positive the team lets agent and player know during the contract negotiations the deal is structured in a way the Cowboys can restructure sometime down the road if they want to. So when the Cowboys do that, there isn't any surprise.
