Do the Cowboys have the NFL' most unusual Super Bowl MVPs?

Only team to have a losing player be MVP (Super Bowl V, Chuck Howley.)

Only team to have co-MVPs in one game (Harvey Martin and Randy White, Super Bowl XII.)

A cornerback as Super Bowl MVP, a relatively rare occurrence (Larry Brown.)

James Washington was close from what I remember reading to get it in SB XXVII.

He would have had it except that the Cowboys changed their game plan at halftime in the locker room. Emmitt said (in a subsequent NFL Films interview) that the team recognized they were losing to Buffalo by 7 points, but still were superior if they would just go back to basic fundamentals. So they decided they would just ram the ball up the Bills defense through nothing but brute offensive-line-and-Emmitt force in the second half, especially since Aikman was still woozy from his concussion in the 49ers game and couldn't be counted on to execute anything complex.

And that's what they did. The second half was nothing but the simplest brute-force rushing attack, Emmitt, Emmitt, Emmitt, wearing down the Bills defense. Nothing fancy.

First half: Bills outscored Cowboys 13-6.
Second half: Cowboys outscored Bills 24-0.

It was a total "A Tale of Two Halves" game.

I was seething in the first half of that game. I remember when the Bills had a legit chance at going up 17-6, but had to settle for a FG.

Ken Norton Jr is still my MVP from SB 27. That tackle he made on Kenneth Davis near the goal line changed the momentum of the game.

I remember that very well. Then the pick on the next play. Game changer. Another game changer early on was the Haley sack, fumble, resulting in a TD. Plays that had to really demoralize the Bills.

There is a very good argument for Chuck Howley being back to back MVP in SB's 5 & 6.
Chuck Howley 43 career turnovers. Lee Roy Jordan 50 career turnovers. Back then LBs routinely made plays. Both had plus instincts. Glad I got see some of that.

YES
AND....add these categories for the unusual - and unique:

Cowboys have the most players as Super Bowl MVPs - 7
Howley, Staubach, Martin, White, Aikman, Smith, Brown

Most positions with Super Bowl MVPs - 6
QB (2), RB, DE, DT, LB, CB

Super Bowl MVPs at all three levels of defense- line, linebacker, secondary

1st defensive player to be awarded Super Bowl MVP -Howley

Of the 10 defensive players to be awarded Super Bowl MVPs, the Cowboys have 4 of them
Howley, Martin, White, Brown

I love our history as much as anyone but it just feels like a broke down old loser dreaming about long lost glory days. It barely even feels like I am a fan of the same franchise any more.

Technically, you could say Duane Thomas probably should've been an MVP, but they gave it to Staubach because Duane was such a jerk to the press.

That's weird too.

I’m not sure if “ unusual “ is the right word.
